FYI: UAW releases list of 2010 cars and trucks made in union shops

There's "Buy American!" and then there's "Buy Union!" If you're among the most serious about keeping your red-white-and-blue money in the
Naturally, it's heavy on domestic offerings, but if you're devoted to imports you can still avail yourself of a few Toyotas, Mazdas, Mitsubishis, and a VW Routan, and support "workers who enjoy the benefits and protections of a union contract." Nevertheless, knowing how some feel about unions all we ask is please stay on topic and please be kind to your virtual neighbor. Let the comments begin...

Union made or not! The new Taurus is exempt from the "not buy because union greedy f*ckers build them" list.

You are buying a union made car any way, most if not all foreign made cars are made by unions, not to mentions many of the parts in "non-union" cars are made by union workers. I don't see what makes the UAW or CAW more evil than foreign unions, but I guess some idiots here would like to like to cut their nose to spite their face. I'm not part of any union, nor do I want to join a union, that doesn't mean I'm brainwashed right wing idiot who likes to repeat things he doesn't understand.
C'mon vote me down, I know it's the fashion here to be like Brian.

Good lord! The hatred of unions in this thread is truly blind. I have serious issues with unions too, but you guys are just nuts.
ronzo 6:00PM (9/24/2009)
Ditto. Not buying anything union thugs have built, especially from a company bailed out by the US government. I'll buy only non-union/non-government owned vehicles from now on.

Ditto...Thanks alot for the "WNTB" Warning List.

I knew this thread would turn into a who's who of jerk off posters.
Yeah I hate buying cars made by my fellow citizens who are being paid fair livable wages.
If only we could under cut their pay so CEO's and share holders could get even richer.
Your collective ignorance is sickening.

I have to agree, I'm not for the UAW either...GM and Chrysler had the chance to dissolve them during bankruptcy but thanks for the democratic party which the majority of their voting base are Unions instead they gave them a seat on the boards WTF....

talk about cutting your nose to spite your face, no one mentioned anything about preferring cars made by foreign unions. For that matter, no one said anything about foreign cars at all (though arguably it's a given since I know of no non-union domestic cars). I believe the point was that they don't feel that there is a need for unions any longer now that they have served their usefulness and are now just hindering competitiveness for American made cars. Maybe you should re-read the story and comments to be sure you don't repeat things you don't understand.

lidave, agreed. Its a shame we cant stand together anymore. That is how we got where we are. I do agree unions aren't like they used to be, and have other reasons they should or shouldn't be in existence, but their basis is standing up against the big guy, as a team. Imagine if oil companies had unions (do they?) and all the workers could stand up against the big oil execs? They lay people off because they are only making 40 billion this year, instead of 50 billion. Just so they can have more money for themselves.
Its hard to make a team effort, if everyone refuses to cooperate. Therefore unions fail.

So let me ponder this one for a moment.
a. Do I boycott union made, you know, the ones that make a good living working in domestic factories that pay taxes and support the local economy and therefore can afford the construction services that I provide allowing several American citizens (union) that work for me to be able to also afford a decent standard of living and spend their hard earned money at local busineses so that they also can pass it along or;
b. Do I buy a non union car from a foriegn company so they can pass my money on to their respective country and my employees can't earn enouph to support our local economy and the local businesman sees none of this either?
Some of you are just plain dumb. Liberal dumb at that.

I guess by some magical power, when I go buy a foreign car made in the state, NOT made by UAW, those workers that work there, who are overwhelmingly Americans, would send every last penny they make overseas. Every one of the workers. They don't spend any of that here in the States. WOW. I guess those states that have foreign owned car factories must be crying everyday for the lack of income from the workers.
Who's the idiot here anyway. ...

Sigh, pro-union people make the same lame arguments over and over again.
1) "CEO's get paid bajillions!" Simple math lesson. CEO gets paid $50 million/yr (actually most don't get paid that much but instead are paid through stocks and benefits), union worker costs $100k+ per worker. Now, add up the thousands of union workers and that amounts to tens of billions of dollars (GM's healthcare liability was actually over $100 billion). Which is more costly, a CEO's salary, or spending billions more on workers than the competition?
2) "Foreign cars! All money goes overseas" Gee, the best-selling cars are made in factories in Canada and the United States. They pay taxes to the US govt. They contribute to the local economy.
3) "Foreign cars are made by unions too!" Flawed presumption. Nobody said all unions everywhere are bad. If you research Japanese Automobile Workers' union (JAW) and their history of strikes, demands, etc, you'll find them a lot less parasitical than the UAW. The UAW happens to get a bad rap because they keep shooting themselves in the foot.

And the same claims of lofty wage and benefit packages from people like you, Aki. Good god stop with the melodrama. At $27/hr I figure a UAW autoworker makes about $56,000 a year. If you really believe these people are getting $44,000/year in benefits, you are high.
