VIDEO: LS9-Powered 2010 Camaro SS by Hennessey gets its first dyno pull

By and large, we live in a society obsessed with numbers. How much money do you make? How big is your home? How many ounces is that piece of steak? Of course, those of us who obsessively cover the auto industry are most often concerned with numbers like top speed and peak horsepower. This being the case, we find ourselves keenly interested in the latest offering from Hennessey, which packs a modified LS9 V8 engine – more commonly found in the engine bay of the amazing Corvette ZR1 – in the new 2010 Chevy Camaro.
So, wanna know how much power the Hennessey HPE700 is packing? Of course you do. How about 645 rear-wheel horsepower and 653 lb-ft of torque? Yeah, that'll do nicely. These are the initial figures recorded on the HPE700's first dyno pull and were achieved with 14.5 psi of boost from the supercharger and 93 octane pump gas. Also, take special note of the dyno graph, which shows a squiggly line that isn't so much a torque peak as it is a torque plateau. Nice. Click past the break to watch the video.

I've got $15,000 sitting in a high interest earning account waiting for the CTS-V Coupe.

25 built. 10 delivered? har har.
Beast of a car none-the-less.

It's too bad they gave the new camaro such a big, boring fat rear end. If they'd sculpted the rear end better, it'd be much more appealing.
As it is, it only looks good from the front or front-quarter angle.
That dark gray color is really cool though.

I'm still amazed that in spite of all the flak Autoblog gets for giving this douche any publicity, they continue to post "news" about him.

I would wager they post about him because of the flak.

Somehow I'm always shocked to see this guy get another story here after all of the horror stories. Yet, comment traffic is worth it I guess.

Why take the engine from a ZR1 and put it in a lesser car? Hey any one up for a Bentley powered Impala?

The LS9 is available as a crate engine from GM. Even you and me can order one if we were so inclined.

A lesser car? Well, if you consider the Camaro SS and base Corvette have similar engines and power for $20K less and 2 extra seats.
Why does it have to always be faster? In the Camaro, you get more for your money. Bang for your buck.

You would fail as a hot rodder.
