VIDEO: Movie cars are strange - VW Bug-powered R34 Skyline from F&F
GTR-bodied buggy from Fast & Furious -- Click above to watch video
Among the numerous cobbled-together blue GT-Rs used in Fast & Furious for Paul Walker's character, the strangest one in real life could be this one: a tube-framed buggy with a VW engine. So instead of an RB engine up front, it's got an empty engine bay and a People's Wagon lump in the back, under the trunklid. It was used for jumping and driving down a flight of steps, and it sounds like it's headed to Baja. Not quite life, not quite art, follow the jump to see video.

I thought this car was stolen a while ago.

Maybe they were disappointed and gave it back?

It was,i wonder if those are genuine r34 parts, or even if it was a kit.. looks pretty good though, except the back end, looks to short, and very high off the ground

Give me a month and I'll make it outrun a GT-R!

How are you planning to cripple a GT-R to make it slower than a bug?
Tourian 3:52PM (9/21/2009)
IT will out run a GT-R right now....in off road desert conidtions which was why it was made.
Farris 4:02PM (9/21/2009)
Tourian: Only for a short while... with no air filter on it, that engine will NOT be happy.

This is pretty old news. although the video of it is new, the VW-Skyline has been known about for a while.

Makes sense. Since they need a mid-engine or rear-engine car to make sure the engine doesn't get damage during the stunt.
Most of the cars in the last movie were probably GT-T's with body-kits on them.

Probably more about getting the weight balance right for going down stairs and off jumps.
A front heavy car does that differently. It isn't as if they just put a cheap 4-cylinder under the engine bay, they actually hacked an engine into the back of the car.
more about changing the balance of the car, than just a cheap engine that can be done-in.

I shot this video. I should have stood further back from the car when it was starting up. The crappy microphone on the iFlip muffled the sound to come across more muscle car than buggy. The sound is more accurate when the car starts driving away from the camera.

No it was just a piece of tape.

Actually, I think the sound is pure air-cooled joy! Reminds me of early unsilenced Porsche 911 race cars! Good work sir...

Yeah, and next time don't wave the camera around! :-)

Am I the only one thinking a new 997 Turbo motor massage by RUF would make one confusing fast car.

Stick a different flat 4 back there... Like one out of an STi, then it would be a really cool car!
Oh and add an interior while you're at it.
