eBay Find of the Day: Tim Allen's gruntworthy "Licorice Streak Special"
1932 Ford "Licorice Streak Special" Tracknose roadster - Click above for high-res image gallery
When television funnyman Tim Allen rang up Steve Moal and asked for a custom Tracknose roadster, his response was the car you see here. It's known as the "Licorice Streak Special" and it's won numerous awards in the 10 years since the Home Improvement star was handed the keys. The gang at Moal Coachbuilders did their typically wonderful job of turning out an immaculate one-off that captures the attitude of a classic hot rod with modern designer touches that make this car equally at home at a week-night cruise-in or on the Links of Pebble Beach.
It's technically a '32 Ford, but very little of it would have been available to someone wandering into a Ford dealership back in the day. Just check out all of those Art Deco brass bits by "Kaki" Kakizaki. It's got an aluminum body stretched over a custom tube chassis and is powered by a built SVO 351 that definitely delivers "more power" (*Cue appropriate grunting*).
While it would take something on the order of $450,000 - $500,000 to replicate it, the Licorice Streak Special is up for bid for another 8 days or so and is currently still below its reserve at "just" $85,100. Check out the gallery below and the eBay Motors listing for all of the details about the build. Thanks for the tip, Matthew.

Great looking car!
I think Tim Allen would have made a good host for Top Gear USA. (Jay Leno, Tim Allen, and Jerry Seinfeld. would have been my picks)

That would have been a great show if they didn't have restrictions. But it's America...they would. :(

Nah, Jerry Seinfeld is annoying as hell... my vote for the third would be Adam Corolla. Properly amusing and definitely a gearhead.

What are they talking about? If there's one type of custom car that looks almost always exactly the same it's this type of '32 ford hot rod
It's a tub/boat on fenderless wheels with a hole in the top to put two seats in.
Great thing for a Friday/Saturday night ride, that's for sure...

Before you make comments like this, I suggest you actually get out and see these cars, or atleast study some photographs.

A typical '32 looks nothing like this. And even if it did, it was hand built from scratch which gives it major kudos.
Brush up on your detail noticing skills too.

Same guy built a Alfa-nosed Ferrari V12-powered hot rod with Ostrich interior. Google it.

Nope, Jay Leno, Tim Allen and Christopher Titus. Titus is a big gear head.

not bad for a guy who should still be sitting in prison.

You think a first time offender, small time drug dealer should spend 30+ years in prison? Surely you're not speaking of the DUI in the mid '90s. Hardly an admirable thing to do, but not worthing of 15+ years in prison. Come on now. The man made a mistake or two and has had the great misfortune for it all to be very public, give him a break.

if he was anyone else (meaning, not white) he'd have been given life.

Who exactly do you think he was in 1978?

I like it, looks good with that nose

Oops, I missed part of your post (or did you change it?)
Just because someone receives injustice doesn't make it right for someone else to receive it as well.

Beautiful car, great comedian. Jim, this is a site about cars, not your political rants. Head back to your acorn office for some leveling of the playing field. Vick kills (or allows) dogs for fun. Stallworth forgets 1800taxiforadrunk and kills a jaywalker. Both did less time. Both will continue to make bucks in the NFL with praise.
Great car. I'd buy in a heartbeat if I had Vick's money...

Not usually a big fan of hot rods because they all look the same to me, especially roadsters based on a '32, and are much too often just garish, but this is as pretty and tasteful as they come. Beautiful craftsmanship too.

They're probably auctioning it as cheap as they are because Tim got in there at one time and "rewired" it. ; )
