Confirmed? Gran Turismo 5 hits stores on Dec. 29

Well, we can put all the rumor-mongering to rest. Reader Larry Spector emailed us this morning with confirmation that Gran Turismo 5 will hit the shelves (and obliterate the productivity of thousands of PS3 owners) on December 29. Is Larry a sneaky Sony employee? Nope, he's a regular Amazon user like the rest of us, and today, GT5 showed up as a Gold Box item for him. The pre-order page now features the release date, so wives, girlfriends, and other assorted family members expecting holiday togetherness can now formally make plans to leave us alone as we spiral into full-on, anti-social gamer mode the week between Christmas and New Year's Day. Though, we have to say -- releasing the game before Christmas might have been the smart move, guys. Regardless, order's been placed. What're you waiting for?

Oh thank God, I was getting worried here (not seeing a release date and all).
I'll be waiting for the reviews and gameplay videos though, I'm pretty happy with my 360 right now and I have yet to finish Forza 2 (buying Forza 3, regardless of that). Justifying the purchase of a new console for a single game, as good as both items may be is hard for me... Although I'm sure my girlfriend would enjoy playing LBP or stuff like that.

Wait, those screenshots - I never noticed how... Wow, I'm disappointed now. What turns me off in Forza 2 right now is the quality of the environment, save for textures because they seem to render properly (aside from the tri or bilenear (sp) filtering - I can see things loading from afar). Texture quality is always a big concern with me and so is MAD TYTE aliasing, and looking at the quality of the texture in that screenshot, I'd skip the game just because of what I've just seen. But where it fails graphically it might just hook me back in gameplay and sheer fun. So yeah, I'll definitely have to wait and see.

@ aprime
the reason the AA looks bad in this is that it was done at 720p not 1080p. i've seen both and can say for certain this is the case, either that or theres been some compression loss (which doesnt seem like it) the AA isint great at 720p if you come from PC games 720 is a pretty low resolution, even 1080 isint that good, so AA will be a bit of an issue for console games until they realise that people use PC displays on them and want 2048x1024 resolution

As a looong time Gran Turismo fan, I have this to say...."I'll believe that date when I see the game on the shelf".
Polyphony is notorious for pushing games back. If it says Dec. 25th, we probably won't see it till March or April of 2010.

Ah, that Amazon pre-order "special price" enticement...
Hah, I nearly fell for that "over-hyped" Amazon pricing last month (Snow Leopard at the pre-order price of $49). Glad I procrastinated...
By the day it was released (8/28 IIRC), it went down to $25...a nearly 50% price drop (!). Glad I procrastinated...
Granted, this is GT5 were talking about here...though the world won't end if I don't get suckered with that Amazon pre-order.."price trap".

Typo there...procrastination "overkill". ;p

FALSE!! This date of 29 Dec has been listed on amazon for MONTHS...it is not new or official. The official release date will be announced at the Tokyo Game Show on 24 Sep.

EB Games says Feb 2010. Who are we to believe? No one.

Somehow felt to be too good to be true anyway, given the little info that seems to be filtering out of the studio to Joystiq & all.

Whatever it is, I'm betting it's mid-to-late next year. Considering they've barely been releasing screens (PR was focusing more on GT PSP for awhile), and the fact that preview builds haven't hit the press yet, it's still a ways away.

this is super old and already debunked

Eh? just Eh? 1000 cars, over 60 tracks, damage, weather, head tracking, 1080p, 60 fps, THE DRIVING SIMULATOR, and all you have to say is Eh?
I would pay LOTS of money to buy the game now if I could.
mikemaj82 4:35PM (9/18/2009)
I played Prologue, and the game was flat out boring. Just go around a track 3 times or so, blah. I don't care about the cars, or graphics, or special effects.
