Frankfurt 2009: Peugeot BB1 Concept is messing with our minds
Peugeot BB1 Concept - Click above for high-res image gallery
You know what the problem with Smart cars is? Not tough enough! Regardless, meet the Peugeot BB1. Yes, it is the logical result of a one night stand between a Subaru SVX and a Peel 50. What are we talking about? We don't even know what we're looking at. Feel free to read a rational account of the Peugeot BB1 at your leisure.
OK fine -- our editor is forcing us to tell you some facts about the BB1. Four wheels for sure. And the weirdly curved glass is all tilted forward before eventually morphing into solar panels on the roof. You steer it with moto-style handle bars. No word if you can opt for a set of ape-hangers, but why on earth not? Engine? Hey – it's a concept, you don't need no stinking engine. Uh.. oh! There are tiny rear-hinged doors with even tinier roll-down windows. So now you know what happens if you allow French automotive weirdness to go unchecked.

reminds me of an enclosed version of those french three wheel scootcars you'll find at various touristy locations.

I think this makes sense in crowded European cities, as a replacement for scooters. It just a chassis made of two scooter saddles that are part of the crash structure. It can seat four on short trips, though it's going to be very intimate with the rear passenger (like for any motorcycle really). It can be made light and relatively crash safe (Smart like).
If it's less than 600 kg I might be interested too. I would suggest lowering the door and the hatch for better visibility, and installing the engine under the floor in the rear, the way Smart does it. Driving it should be quite fun.

Autoblog seems content to just post about how funny or bad it looks.
Too bad as I think this one of the more interesting things I've seen online from this show.
Anyway... there is no motor to put under the back floor. It is an EV and uses two in-wheel motors. Li-ion bats under the seats. 56mph top speed and 75 mile range apparently, at the moment.

I'd drive it. I enjoy funky designs, and this reminds me of that old hot rod era type desgins blended with modern micro car size.

The chairs look like toilets - do those lids flip up?

That was exactly my first thought - "wow, it has an in-built toilet"...
fmwso 8:59PM (9/16/2009)
At first I thought: "Lol, you can't be serious" but after looking at it, I just can't help but label this car as a mobile toilet seat. Imagine driving this while you poop lol.

It looks strange but I think it looks good too! great looking driving position. the interior is a bit weird, but obviously it is a concept. I really dig it.

now that's exactly what i think about every american build car, accept for '57 bel air and 300c, viper, design wise.
i wouldn't take anyone even if i would get it free with a brick of butter sold in the supermarket.
i'm not a explicit fan of french cars, but i inherit a french car, a renault 21 12v.
good chairs, very good engines, sticks very wel on the road, i drove that car each and every day over 100+ m/h(before the extreme 12 points on the driving license system) and most of the time the goal was to take a certain corners on the highway @ highest speed possible.
the car got even better when i added a oil cooler from a lancia.
the interiors in Citroen are totaly amazing, one of the best interiors i ever have seen was on the Citroen CX25, this was future back in the old days(more thna 25 years ago).
confortable and super spacy.
(none of the cars build in the U.S. have met this quality interior found on this car, even today).
the XM was very cool, a car the tail lights where practicaly invissible.
the 205 GTI / MI16 was a killer car with nice rims, absolute deadly for unexperienced drivers.
(less than 1700 pounds and 140/160hp).
a loaded 605 3.0 is ....... a wanna have vihicle.
ever seen the Picasso in real life?
damm, if i would have need for a minivan, this would be it, no doubt.
fabouless design.
(as a german car fan, i mostly don't look after french cars, but the picasso has very cool female curves.)
the exterior on the 5 door C4 is very cool.
the Renault Avantime, is very very very very cool, it's mpv coupe, with no B-pilars.
http://wikicars.org/en/Renault_Avantime
Engine 3.0litre V6, 24-valve
Power 140 mph (225.3 km/h) 210.00 hp
witch american mpv can achieve that speed?
when i saw this car for the first time, i was stunned.
guaranteed it makes you jaw DROP and automaticly add to wishlist.
the best suspention system ever invented build by Citroen.
what speed bump?
their design is just 'avantgarde'.
it's said, that people who drive french cars are also very up to date on the latest clothing fashion.
fixitfixitstop 5:11PM (9/16/2009)
I still think this car is cool.
