Frankfurt 2009: Bring us the 2010 Opel Insignia OPC Sports Tourer

Remember this? "More wagons! More wagons!" Well, here's another. Meet the Opel Insignia OPC Sports Tourer. Salient facts: 325-horsepower turbocharged 2.8-liter V6, AWD, six-speed manual, eLSD torque vectoring and it's a station wagon. Oh, and get this -- it's built from off the shelf GM parts. Serious. For instance, that fancy-pants eLSD torque vectoring system comes from the Saab Turbo X. All the rest of the pieces are General Motors parts bin. Ready for the best part? You can't have it! Ha ha ha. Of course neither could we. Would we totally rock a slightly larger, good looking EVO X-ish station wagon? Hell to the yeah. Which part is the good GM again?

oh, and does this looks better than the E63 AMG wagon? hell yeah, but of course the power of hte AMG will win me over, just saying design wise this rocks
and @geo.s
please don't mention the CC in this same thread, looks no where near this good
that front is so bad only a mother could love it
the opel on the other hand, well I cant find anything to pick at, which I did on the E63 AMG wagon

I know they're not in the same class, but this is much nicer looking than the CTS wagon IMO.

I wonder how much something like that would cost here stateside?

Probably whatever it costs to import a bunch yourself and getting them to pass US crash/emissions testing =(

I'm impressed, that is alot of power for a Vauxhall that isn't a rebadged Holden. I like this version, but I prefer the saloon/hatch model.

It'd probably be north of $40K here in the states, but I don't care. It'd be worth every penny. I love this, and it makes me sad to think I'll never own one.

I think the drooling here is much to do with the fact that you simply can't have it. Forbidden fruit, as it's called.
Sort of like kids who want do do something more if they are told by their parents that they can't do it.

You're absolutely right, it has nothing to do with the 325hp, AWD, or six-speed manual in a wagon form factor. What drooling nincompoops we all are!
TBlueMax 3:14PM (9/16/2009)
Yes. Please. If I thought visiting my local [Saturn] Buick dealer with a check to put a deposit on this beauty would work, I would have been there a few months ago when they announced the regular old Insignia Tourer. Sadly, no hot GM wagon action for me.

Its very hot, although out of my price range and need really.
That said,
I think a Malibu wagon would look very nice.

The Buick LaCrosse uses the same base chassis and the Cadillac SRX used the 2.8L Turbo six as well. GM made the chassis for AWD aleready so what's such a surprise?
The Saturn Aura and Chevy Malibu use the prior version of the this chassis and the latter should get the updated stuff by 2011/12.

Ian...Stating the obvious doesn't get you anywhere.
Does the SRX, Aura, Malibu or Lacrosse have 325 Horsepower, a 6 speed manual, AWD *and* a 0-60 time of under 6 seconds? No... That's why we're salivating.
Ian 4:05PM (9/16/2009)
The article gave the impression that is was amazing for GM to be able to put together such a vehicle essentialy using its parts bin. I point out that this is not amazing at all. The Lacrosse is closest, all you need is to use dthe 2.8L turbo engine instead of the 280HP 3.6L engine presently used (so it won't compete with "higher end" Cadillacs I guess).
The Cadillac CTS Sportswagon AWD 2010 model gives similar performance (304HP 3.6L NA engine) and uses another excellent GM chassis. and costs about $52K

Buick Regal Sport Wagon Super (or Gran Sport).

Bring it, GM. If you can't make a business case for a rebadged G8, at least give us the hot wagon version of the retrimmed-Insignia we all know will be the next Buick Regal.
Do. It.
