Frankfurt 2009: 2011 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon
More wagons! More wagons! That's sort of the unspoken mantra of us American auto journo types. And honestly, after a day spent wandering the streets of Frankfurt and seeing over a dozen Alfa Romeo 156 Sportwagens, our chant grows even stronger. Sadly, it seems that most European automakers prefer seeing us twisting in existential pain and totally ignore the US market vis-a-vis wagons. Except for Mercedes-Benz and their quite fetching all-new E-Class Wagon.
As of right now, M-B is only bringing over the E350 4MATIC Wagon that develops 258 hp from a 3.5-liter V6. But you can bet your carbon offset credits we'll eventually see one of them hot roddy 6.2-liter AMG V8s pushing out well over 500 hp before too long. Probably mostly in a Brentwood elementary school parking lot, but still. As for now, relish the fact a new European wagon is coming our way.

Don't say this even as a joke ... it looks great. Love the MB wagons which have the 4matic option. Great vehicles.
Let's see whether and what type of diesels will that come with to the states .. or I WISH at least

The most luxurious and best looking station wagon on the planet!
also the fastest performing one too!

If the e63 wagon floats your boat, good for you, but i think your wrong in claiming that it is the fastest station wagon on the planet. I'm quite sure the RS6 avant is faster than this.
I could also argue that the RS6 is more luxurious and better looking, but that falls into personal tastes, and is therefore irrelevant.
Either way, gotta love the fact that the germans offer these crazy wagons. Now, if we can get cadillac to build a cts-v wagon, we would have quite a battle on our hands for best wagon!

I've always liked the E-class wagon. If only I could afford one.

A 258-horsepower 3.5 L...V8? When did this happen?

Must be a typo. The MB 3.5 is a V6.

Barf! Good thing there's all that extra space in the back to hold all my barf bags that will accumulate from looking at this.

enormous tail-lights. not cool

The taillights aren't that big; sure they wrap-around but that just makes it easier to see your brake light & turn signal. If you're looking for enormous taillights, look no further than the CTS Sportwagon and the Volvo V/XC70 where they occupy the full height of the lift-gate.
fixitfixitstop 11:57PM (9/15/2009)
I'll bite. What is the ideal size for taillights in your opinion? More than a handful, or less?
mbslrm 8:05PM (9/15/2009)
Those taillights work really well on the wagon. Much better than the sedan/coupe.

Schweet. Now a Brabus 6.3 AWD and I'll replace my audi S6 avant.

In Italy we had the fiat Stilo multiwagon... the worst fiat wagon ever.
Look at this:

Many people in Italy think this MB is "inspired" by Stilo; Not just a good think of course.

Never mind the wagon, where the hell is that E-Class convertible that Sarah Jessica Parker was so lovely modeling! :)

Why is there a badge that says "avantgarde"? Same for "elegance" on the sedan. Isn't that like badge that says "sporty" on a SLR?
