VIDEO: Need for Speed: Shift adds legendary Car Battle game mode
Need for Speed: Shift Car Battle Mode -- Click above to watch video after the jump
Need for Speed: Shift has added a Car Battle mode that pits some of the fastest, fittest, downright nastiest machinery out there in head-to-head matchups. Fifteen different matchups are possible with cars like the Ford GT going against the Dodge Viper, Cayman and M3 sports car racers battling it out, and Murcielago and DBRS GT-class cars going for honors. The point is to pit unmodified cars against one another to find out which car -- and which driver -- is the business. The game is due out next week. You can check out the video after the jump to start figuring out which cars you want to go showdown with...

I'm not going to risk my money on this. They seriously need to release a demo.

ditto, there is no way I'm buying this without a demo. I would be more lenient because they are releasing on PC (where there is no Forza or Gran Turismo). All the past Need For Speeds, and even Codemasters Grid were absolutely terrible. What I hate most is how those games hid their shoddy model and reflective work with a billion godawful postprocessing effects, the worse offender so far DiRT 2.

It got a 9 out of 10 on IGN.com. From the promo videos and video review, it's said to be "arguably" the best NFS in the last few years.
I personally prefer Most Wanted because it combined the tuner and Hot Pursuit aspects, and it was a fun game.
Can't wait for Shift!

Even with a demo, they can still screw up a game. I'd just wait until it hits $20 like one of their other games (I think it was NFS undercover).

cool concept. still though, nfs has got to go back to street racing and police chases!

Man, EA listened to people like you, who said ProStreet was ****, and made NFS Undercover which was officially the lowest rated NFS game ever... If you want police chases, go play NFS Nitro.

Intresting, I guess...
But cant you just match the cars up on your own? Its not like these" battles" are a mystery. Make your own. CTS-V vs M5. M3 vs RS4 vs C63. Enzo vs MC12. Prius vs Insight (well maybe not..). its not that hard.

I'm still waiting for a prius vs. insight racing game. Except instead of actually racing you try to get the best mileage while driving around san francisco trying to find a place that carries organic cheesecakes for your wife's dinner party.

The video sure makes it look a bit arcady.

sadly it needs to be arcade in order to sell. i guess GTR2 will be the last simulation game ever made.

"Shift is under development by Slightly Mad Studios—who, under their former name Blimey! Games helped develop GT Legends and GTR 2 together with SimBin Studios... In the new franchising model for the series adopted by EA, Shift takes its place aiming at hardcore gamers and focusing on simulation racing and realistic drifting rather than the arcade racing of previous titles in the series. It focuses less on street racing and more on simulating the driver experience and is being described as a racing game built by racers for racers."

And also remember that part of the team that developed GTR2 is also involved in this game.

Ignore my double post.
sparrk 5:15PM (9/12/2009)
i'm also ignoring the PR stuff , just because it's made by the GTR guys doesn't mean EA won't stick it's dirty hand in the game. we'll have to wait and see.
