Need for Speed: Shift Car Battle Mode -- Click above to watch video after the jump

Need for Speed: Shift has added a Car Battle mode that pits some of the fastest, fittest, downright nastiest machinery out there in head-to-head matchups. Fifteen different matchups are possible with cars like the Ford GT going against the Dodge Viper, Cayman and M3 sports car racers battling it out, and Murcielago and DBRS GT-class cars going for honors. The point is to pit unmodified cars against one another to find out which car -- and which driver -- is the business. The game is due out next week. You can check out the video after the jump to start figuring out which cars you want to go showdown with...

ARE there actual stock production cars in this game without 30,000 stickers on them? Makes the cars look like crap, and the racing ridiculous.

and of course, we don't see actual gameplay footage.

"Car Battle" ??? seriously?? i'm picturing a corporate meeting:

Exec 1: "OOH i know! we'll have two fast gars go around a road course to see which one is faster, it will be a test of machine and driver skill"

Exec 2: "wow thats a great idea.... what will we call this contest between cars?"

Exec 3 "umm... how about a 'race'?"

Exec 2: "No, that sounds to... racial, need something more pollitically correct"

Exec 1: "Well a lot of people in America like war... hell we'vegot two of the right now, lets call it Car war"

Exec 2: "no, i think Battle is more catchy... lets call it car battle!"

      stupid stupid stupid.

I am still in love with NFS Porsche Unleashed.

The rest are too arcade like and feel dumb.

Shift might be the NFS release I have been waiting for.

Porsche Unleashed was great! the physics were top notch for its day.... makes me wonder what the hell was wrong that they had to get all Cruisn' USA on us. the only problem with Porshce uneashed was that you could buy a rwecked up used car, fix it, and sell it and you'd have more money than you started with.

The video sure makes it look a bit arcady.

i'm also ignoring the PR stuff , just because it's made by the GTR guys doesn't mean EA won't stick it's dirty hand in the game. we'll have to wait and see.

"In the new franchising model for the series adopted by EA, Shift takes its place aiming at hardcore gamers and focusing on simulation racing and realistic drifting rather than the arcade racing of previous titles in the series. It focuses less on street racing and more on simulating the driver experience and is being described as a racing game built by racers for racers."

And also remember that part of the team that developed GTR2 is also involved in this game.

I'm not going to risk my money on this. They seriously need to release a demo.

It got a 9 out of 10 on IGN.com. From the promo videos and video review, it's said to be "arguably" the best NFS in the last few years.

I personally prefer Most Wanted because it combined the tuner and Hot Pursuit aspects, and it was a fun game.

        Can't wait for Shift!

I have been playing NFS since the original came out in 1994... love most of them, the guy reviewing it in the HD video is right they have gone downhill a lot in recent years.

I *want* this game... but I don't feel like it would be worth a 50 dollar gamble to buy when Forza 3 is coming out so soon, and then Modern Warfare 2. Money isn't exactly falling in my lap so I gotta choose wisely. It looks good, but the price needs to come down or a demo needs to come out before i blow my money.
