Richard Petty with his Ford Torino Cobra at the 1969 Daytona 500 - Click above for high-res image

As expected, Richard Petty Motorsports will no longer race in NASCAR using Chrysler vehicles after the current season, instead turning to Ford and joining forces with Yates Racing. The first sign of discontentment between the Pentastar and Petty came shortly after Chrysler filed for bankruptcy and halted payment to Petty's racing organization.

For the 2010 season, the new group will field a team of drivers consisting of Kasey Kahne, A.J. Allmendinger, Paul Menard and Elliott Sadler. At this point, its unclear what will happen with Reed Sorenson, Bobby Labonte and Erik Darnell, the three drivers currently left out of the new team's plans.

You'd have to turn back the clock a full 40 years to see the last time Richard Petty raced with Ford. Petty won a total of nine races in 1969, his lone season driving a car from the Blue Oval, before eventually losing out on the title to David Pearson's Holman Moody-prepped Ford Torino.

Regarding the statement that all top fuel cars are 426 Chrysler Hemis; The Ford Bodies have FORD Boss 500 Engines in them.

That's a Torino Talladega by the way, not a Torino Cobra.

Absolutely sickening. Casey Kane in a Ford? I guess being a brand loyalist doesen't mean much anymore. I mean if you sanded the paint off any of these COT's you couldn't tell which make they were. That IMO is what's wrong with NASCAR. It's all the same. Racing in general has become nothing but a bunch of decals and paint jobs. I mean when you see a Toyota funny car how low can it get. All powered by a version of the most famous and powerful engine ever built. the 426 CHRYSLER HEMI !!.

The Ford Funny Cars are powered by Boss 500 FORD Engines, sorry!

Casey Kahne actually drove Fords before driving brand x products.

        http://www.nascar.com/2009/news/headlines/cup/09/11/preview.kkahne.reaction.ford/index.html

I believe Kahne is now back where he belongs.

If you want to talk about a TRAITOR - look no further than Jeffie Gordon - that twit was groomed and raced Fords in lower divisions and was poised to go to Winston Cup with Ford when the convicted felon and pardoned by impeached Bill Clinton stole him for Chevrolet! Talk about loyalty!

Ah, sorry, but John Force Racing uses a Boss FORD that was developed by Jack Roush and Ford Motor Co.
would you prefer him in a TOYOTA dodge boy? I personally couldn't give a crap about casey kahne, but I'm happy to see Elliot Sadler (a driver with a great personality) back in a Ford product.

Well Casey K never made a name in a Ford. Even his super mod's are Mopars. As for the Hemi. Nascar outlawed them years ago because they didn't what Chrysler wiping up the asphalt with Hemi powered wing car's. I don't have to "get over it". I just don't have to watch it if I don't like it.

Ford SOCHs were banned, too, even after they manufactured at least 500 engines as mandated by NASCAR.

Hemi was banned from NASCAR just for part of 1965 season.
Yep, and that's when Chrysler boycotted NASCAR -- Petty drove a hemi-Cuda in NHRA drag racing instead of roundy-rounds. Wow .... no turns!
NASCAR doesn't use real stock cars anymore, so this news doesn't have the same relevancy it would've had 30 years ago. Still you gotta appreciate Petty's loyalty to Chrysler through the years of irrelevant stock cars.Kinda sad he feels burned because of Chrysler not not financially supporting his racing team on account of the bankruptcy.

I have to wonder what Petty expected Chrysler to do when company is losing money and Petty's own team isn't dominating NASCAR like it used to so many years ago.

Where can I find boots to match MY wheels?
The boots are black in that photo.
Same place you bought your wheels.
I think you get the boots first, then match the wheels.

Wow, I remember when NA$CAR used real cars, instead of spec cars with headlight and taillight decals. Bring back bodies in white!
They should dump Elliot Sadler and put either Travis Kvipal of Bobby Labonte
      in that car!

I have never seen the Bentley Continental GT in that shade of blue!

...but it wasn't the last time *A* Petty raced a Ford... Kyle Petty ran a Thunderbird in the '80s for The Wood Brothers, winning two races in '86-'87... I know he *used* to have a stake in Petty Enterprises, don't know if that transitioned over when they became RPM.

Crazy your right. But Nascar has become so sanitized by rules and regulations that it's almost to the point of what's the point of having brand racing. I mean they might as well have a Nas-Car car and we'll just pick our favorite drivers. Petty can sand the paint of his cars and if Kia want's to back him they can paint and decal them so they look like Kia's. Last night's race was about as exciting as watching a dog eat his meal. Theres no more real battle's on these track's that were once action packed. That's why the stand's aren't packed anymore because the fans know these car's are going to go around these track's in the most perdictable way's. In other word's, it gets boring quick. This will be the downfall of Nascar.
