Spy Shots: 2011 Infiniti QX56 caught on show

The 2011 Infiniti QX56 went on display in the Middle East and some stealthy soul caught a couple of close-up pics from the front and rear three-quarter. It's a much smoother vehicle than the one it replaces, ditching the arcs for hard angles. It also sheds finicky styling cues like the current vehicle's slightly contorted C-pillar arrangement, going for an uninterrupted window line rimmed by a chrome strip. Head on, though, it's grille-tastic.Body elements like flaring arches are more integrated, and the chrome strip running down the side has been omitted. The rear is an FX-ified version of the new Nissan Patrol, and the package rides on anice set of Infiniti's trademark wheels. We aren't sure if it will turn the QX56's sales numbers around, but stranger things have happened... Hat tip to Drew

It is, well its nothing more then a tweaked nissan Patrol (2010) but hey now might give the Lexus version of the Land Cruiser a run for its money, I'm hoping they send us a new "Armada" as a Nissan Patrol or just the Patrol doesn't matter.
kudos Nissan

It kind of reminds me of the assassin-alien thing from The Last Starfighter:

Mike gets voted up, even though that is stuck in my head now.

Everybody who quotes the Fishbone song gets it wrong.

@Mike
No Way! I was thinking the SAME thing when I saw it on the front page. Laughed so hard when I saw you posted it!

Wow. It really IS ugly. I don't like it. Then again, I DO like the current model - and most people don't like that either.. Maybe it's just the pictures but it looks a lot smaller to me.. Maybe the interior is very nice. When the original QX56 first came out, it's interior was a good bit nicer than most other full-size SUVs. Quite powerful as well.. It even handled nicely.. I wonder what this one will be like...

Hmmm... my first impression is actually positive, compared to everyone elses comments. This large SUV actually looks good, better than the Lexus version.

How to take a horribly ugly and pointless vehicle, keep it equally pointless, and make it uglier.

A Nissan Patrol is hardly "pointless". If Nissan truly based this truck on the new Patrol, this thing is the equivalent of a luxurious Land Rover Defender. They are incredibly tough and capable.
Don't trust me- look it up.
fixitfixitstop 11:56PM (9/10/2009)
I don't think it's uglier, but it's not an improvement. If that makes sense...

I am not sure why Infiniti thinks it needs to be in this segment. The last QX56 was horrible. This is better, but still unnecessary.

@inteller
the last QX56 was one of hte best full size SUV's out there
it pretty much tore up any GMT900/Navigators
it might not have been the best looking - the Excalade can't be topeed there, but it still outdid the Slade in everyother way
personnaly I liked it, but this new one it's definitely not an improvement, it's ugly (although I like the rear end), but it also seems much smaller. I guess the front end just needs to be redone imo

its either kinda cool or really ugly, i am leaning toward really ugly

Agreed. I am lost to this vehicle. It looks interesting, but ugly at the same time.

It's better than the CrossTurd Honda just tossed in the ring. Granted, totally different vehicle/segment/application but at least Nissan put some effort into the styling. Just not sure the family resemblance is worth pursuing on something this ungainly. I'd take it over the big Mercedes or Lexus though. Totally impressed with Infiniti over the last 6-7 years.
