VIDEO: Abstract teaser hints at Mini concept duo for Frankfurt

For better or worse, many regard the Mini Cooper as a chick's car. But rather than fighting that idea before it unveils a pair of concepts at the Frankfurt show, the BMW's Mini division has released this conceptual teaser video that, well...let's just say it embraces its girl appeal. But it doesn't do much more than that. Follow the jump to see what we mean.

Well - considering 75% of them seem to be driven by women... And by how many women respond, "Awwww... Those Minis are so cute!" when one drives by. I like Minis and they drive fine, but they are definately a chick car.

The regular MINI is a bit of a girls car and the convertible too but the Cooper S is not and neither is the JCW MINI.
Most of the Cooper S and JCW MINIs I see are driven by men.

One has the personality of a girl from a Duran Duran video and the other has the personality of a girl from a Robert Palmer video. How very 80s of them.
I didn't think a Mini was a chick car until I noticed how many women drive them!

The MINI was designed to appeal equally to girls and guys (read about their design language), and I think it succeeds exactly that way according to my observations.
Literally, the headlights were designed to appeal to girls, and the central hump to guys. I read this!

Here is what I think MINI is trying to say;
I guess they are either releasing two separate cars.
-One considered "girly/proper" and another considered "wild/hip/fun/hardcore"
Or they are releasing one car that encompasses all of the above.
Either way, they have me curious.

Does anybody else remember that concept Mini had a while back? It was purely to illustrate design language and never meant for production, but it has a lot in common with this commercial, it was completely asymmetrical, one side being completely mundane and ordinary, the other being more wild, showcasing radical wheel designs and strangely designed doors. It even uses a similar color theme as this, black, white, blue, and brown tones.
