REPORT: Mercedes-Benz may buy a stake in Brawn GP
The Daily Telegraph reports Mercedes-Benz is considering purchainsg a stake in the Brawn GP team. The Brawn team was born out of the ashes of Honda F1 at the end of 2008 when the Japanese automaker decided to withdraw. At the time, Brawn was able to strike a deal with Mercedes for a supply of engines for 2009. Team principal Ross Brawn quickly demonstrated what his team could do by firing off a string of victories. According to the Telegraph, Mercedes actually considered buying the team as McLaren struggled.
This would come as a dramatic turnaround if the deal does come to fruition. Earlier this year, McLaren reportedly looked at following Honda out the door at the prompting of board member Helmut Lense. Now the paper reports that besides possibly buying into Brawn, the automaker could expand its engine supply to Red Bull in addition to McLaren, Brawn and Force India.

Yes, the daily telegraph is a reliable source of motorsport news... I think not. Plus havent this issue been beaten to death already. Mclaren already shown sparks of their old form and this "rumour" will go down the drain.

wait im confused. I thought Mercedes was just planning on pulling their sponsership from the McLaren team, not that the McLaren team was planning on leaving the sport?

Norbert Haug wants Brawn to put the Mercedes star on the car , Brawn wants cash for that , MB gives him cash. that's all.

I hope Brawn will remember what "good" was brought about by Mercedes acquisition (excuse me, equal sharing) of Chrysler. 8-9 billion out the door and then "don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out." Just be wary.

Doesn't exactly make sense. Mclaren is still a huge team which would bring more money to merc than brawn ever could their driver was world champion last year and they struggled a bit this season but it is just retarded to jump ship.
