Rendered Speculation: next Murcielago will be (*gulp*) longer and wider
According to a new report in Auto Express, there are a lot of changes planned for the next Lamborghini Murcielago. Among them all, the one that claimed most of our attention was that the next boss bull will "be wider and longer." The length isn't such a big deal, but the current LP640 already approaches the opposite of narrow, and it's already superbly planted. If that part is true, we don't know what the extra width would do except to make the car... well, wider. Design-wise, if the publication's rendering is to be believed, the Murci will get a lot of Gallardo and Reventón up front. A trim strip of LEDs (458 Italia, anyone?) would replace the current multi-lamp unit, in front and back. The front intakes look to be lifted straight from its littler sibling, and the rear screams "Estoque!" – in a good way.
AE suggests that the construction will be Audi spaceframe-esque, with a complete carbon fiber body (shedding the current steel roof and doors). With less weight and an expected jump to 700 horsepower, that ought to be enough to get the Murci to 60 mph in three ticks of the second-hand. AE posits that the car will retain its four-wheel-drive and will adopt stop-start and energy regeneration, the first in the family to do so. Expect to see it – and hear it roaring to life at valet stands everywhere– in 2012.

Why 2012? I thought the Murci SV was the last hurrah for the Murci's last model year?

Will this thing be based on a modified and stretched R8 Chassis now, and is it going to have a brand new engine?
I hope they don't mess this up.

Beautiful! Can't wait to see what the new one looks like for real.

I'd just like to see a Lamborghini I can fit into. I'm 6'7 and I could actually buy/lease one of these if I could get into it.

How can you not fit into it?
My neighbor is an NBA player exactly your height and he has a Gallardo Spyder that he fits into. All his friends have Lamborghinis and Ferraris also.

I stood next to a Lamborghini Gallardo. It didn't even come up to my knees.
And it rode so close to the ground it was alike a sled. To put this in perspective, I'm so big when I sit in my 300SRT8 or my S550, the seat goes way back so I can get comfortable.

Thankfully you don't stand while operating Lambos ... you sit in a reclined position.
I'd try cramming your rich ass into an actual Lambo before decrying it as impossible.

I recall seeing a picture of Wilt Chamberlain sitting in a Countach (in one of his autobiographies, the title escapes me at the moment). Since he's 7 ft 1 and can still fit, you sir shouldn't have any problems.

I love guys on here that no matter what the blog is about, always manage to fit in a comment that includes what types of expensive cars they own and the expensive cars they can afford if they wanted to. This is almost getting as bad as "my daddy owns this car ....."

Good one.

The best thing for you is to get a bicycle and STFU. You tall MF's are useless whiners anyway.

Great design. I really like the Gallardo-esque shape from the angle of that second picture. Much better design than the current Murcielago, IMO.
But start/stop? And energy regeneration? Not that I'm against such technology, but how many people out there are really concerned about having that stuff on their $350,000+ supercars?

That is sick. Although, how are you supposed to see the cops behind you in those tiny little mirrors?

No need to see what's behind, only what's ahead. :D

Please Lamborghini no stop-start system. I want to hear the car, even on idle. And someone with this kind of money doesn't care if it'll do 16 or 15 mpg.
(Plus I think the batteries create more harm than good to the environmet in this sort of anyway-much-consuming car)
But if they do a KERS type of thing, I'm all for it, just let me hear it idle. Ok Lambo?

i kinda find that hard to believe cuz if I recall hearing one time, I heard that the next big Lambo would have Reventon Styling, in which this does, but will share little components with the Murcielago, and would be the successor of the Murcielago and come out in 2012. Thats what I heard. It looks cool and all, but hard to believe.

All that start/stop and other similar tech just isn't necessary here. This is a Lamborghini, not a Camry Hybrid.
It's designed to look fast, sound fast, and sort of GO fast. Not hearing it at idle is not in line with what the character of ANY supercar should be like, at least any current one.
An R8-based platform would be quite interesting though. And this thing is supposed to come in about a year isn't it? Not 2012.
BTW Autoblog, "littler"? Seriously?

If it gets any wider, they can install the V12 transversely.

Front-wheel drive Lamborghini V12 hybrid, anyone?
Anyone?

It must be just me, but to me this rendering looks horrific. It seems over-inflated and bulbous, in addition to being in possession of wholly too much 'bling'.
And I have to say... Quantumphysics, what the hell are you on about?
