VIDEO: Porsche 911 Sport Classic wags its ducktail
Click above to view the video after the jump
How many versions and permutations of the 911 can Porsche churn out? Apparently one more, as we discovered this morning with the release of the new, limited-edition Sport Classic.
The 911 SC packs an extra 23 horsepower over stock, retro duck-tail spoiler and carbon ceramic brakes in a body with tone-on-tone racing stripes, classically-inspired Sport Classic wheels, and a special woven leather interior. But with only 250 to be made and a price tag approaching a quarter-mil, the video after the jump may be the closest any of us get to this exclusive sportscar. Check it out.

I missed the part where it literally takes off and flies away, it does do that right? For $240k.......

And I'd want this over a GT3, Turbo, Turbo S, GT3 RS or GT2 because what??? I was thinking that this would be priced between the C2S and GT3, maybe around a base price of $120k. Where
Porsche has lost their friggin minds.
Tourian 4:00PM (9/02/2009)
So its not even a turbo? Its just a 911 GT3 with a body kit and a few mods? Wow. Talk about cashing in on your faithful. I guess they have to pay the debt they owe VW some way, and fast or else they'll get their legs broken.

Oh wow, after that video I was totally convinced that it was worth $240,000....not.
That was amazing, it looked and sounded just like a 911.
How about that.
That $100,000 duck wing was definitely cool and worth the money.....
Who is Porsche kidding?

What ??!!! Is Porsche trying to raise $$$$ to buy itself back from VW ??!! $250K ???? That's more than 2X the cost of a regular Carrera S !!! For just a bit more HP, ceremic brakes and cosmetic changes ??? Probably cost Porsche no more than $25K to do all that, netting them a profit of at least $125K over a regular Carrera S. What is Porsche smoking ???

My point is when will 911 EVER get an all-new model? How many decades it's been the same body shape?
I am not asking that much. Even an evolutionary model would be nice...
BoxerFanatic 4:53PM (9/02/2009)
skimrn,
The 996 was an all-new model. The 997 was siginficantly revised from that.
The air-cooled 911s were mostly one chassis structure for far longer.
The 998 is coming in a few years, which will be another chassis upgrade.
If you are looking for brand new, Porsche is not the brand to look at. Their new stuff isn't great, but their evolutionary process to sports cars is quite competitive, and rational. Stick to what works, and refine it to work better. Re-inventing the wheel just for the sake of fashionable trends is not the end goal. A better car is, and the Porsche sports cars are quite good cars.
Fashion has dictated a fantastic car like F430 going into an odd-looking car like F458 Italia, or any number of other cars that have happened to get a bit worse with successive iterations.
Frankly, Porsche's new material leaves some to be desired. Panamera is a fantastic format plan, but the execution of the body shape is ungainly. Porsche does better when they have a pattern to stick to, like the 911. They seem better at refining within parameters, than being unbound by them.

Most people think the 458 is a great looking car and the majority are
in agreement it is a styling improvement over the F430. Fashion didn't
dictate anything, you did.

i like it.
to be honest, the regular 911s are overpriced already. but as long as there are people willing to pay this much...

Price is indeed a bit steep, but it is beautiful inside and out, and the limited production run seems to justify the price for the heavyweight Porsche collector.

What is Porsche smoking? Apparently, a magical herb that imparts marketing genius to all that partake. You've all answered your own questions. Give the 911 a gluteal implant, make few enough that it is a guaranteed future classic and charge twice as much to ride.
How is this not what every single car manufacturer on the face of the planet wishes it could do? For all intents and purposes you can consider all 250 to be spoken for already, and I wouldn't be surprised if dealers mark them up while they're at it.

BTW, if you haven't already, go take a peek at the gallery. I want to lick the interior. It looks scrumptious.

Another great example of the concept of value at it's finest. What are people thinking ?? I suppose we're wrong if they sell all 250 of them.

I have never liked that style of tail end. There is one I've seen near here and I just don't like it.
