"Bonkers" is Relative: Heffner Performance cranks out the 1100-hp twin-turbo Lamborghini Murcielago
Heffner Performance Lamborghini Murcielago Twin-Turbo – Click above for high-res image gallerySure, there are some cars on the road more bonkers than the Lamborghini Murcielago. But not many. After all, how do you best over 570 horsepower driving all four wheels? Well, how about nearly doubling the output and channeling it all through half the wheel count? That's exactly what Heffner Performance has done with its twin-turbo upgrade for the aging raging bull. By bolting on a set of turbochargers, the Sarasota, Florida-based tuning garage has boosted the corral up to 1,100 horsepower, all driving through the rear wheels.
As you can see from the photos in the high-res image gallery below and the pair of videos after the jump, the craftsmanship looks flawless. But it's the acceleration that really boggles the mind. With that much power channeled through two wheels, we don't want to ask about the standstill sprint to 60 mph, but Heffner's given us a hint at the twin-turbo Murci's in-gear acceleration times, which is really what it all comes down to. A stock Murcielago can jump from 60 miles per hour up to 130 in 9.5 seconds. Pretty impressive, but that's just for reference. The Heff? 5.1 seconds. In 90-degree heat. With "only" 950 horsepower dialed in. With all 1,100, Heffner figures she'll do it in less than four.

PRESS RELEASE:
Heffner Performance Murcielago TT Release Info
After several long months of development we have completed our twin turbo Murcielago. As of August 2009 we have tuned the car up to 1 bar of boost which resulted in just over 1100 RWHP. For now we are playing around with the car at various boost levels and documenting the differences in performance with our trusty V Box.
In 90 degree heat the car pulled off a 5.10 second 60-130 at around 950 RWHP. For reference a stock 580 horsepower Murcielago takes around 9.5 seconds to make the leap from 60 to 130.
With a little more boost it will dip into the 4 second range for sure.
The Heffner Twin Turbo Murcielago is an absolute blast to drive and sounds like nothing we have ever heard.

It makes you wonder if you'll ever really get to use all that power.

maybe at those one off events tanner keeps hitting up... and occasionally when the highway's totally empty?

I've got just 2 questions.
Is it faster than a Veyron?
Is it as safe as a Veyron?

My days of fantasizing of 1000+ hp are over. I'll take my Murci stock...in Batman grey.

I agree, a stock one will do for me, in white. But it is nice to see the Murci get some love. It seems all the tuner kits and big power builds have been on Gallardos so far.

At this point where 1,000hp is the new 500hp, I don't care how fast it really is but that being overpowered and RWD is what a Lamborghini should be and that's what makes me love this car.

I was going to say the same thing about 1000hp being the new 500hp.
Somehow 1000hp is not as exciting as it was before the Veyron was introduced.
arash 11:53PM (9/02/2009)
is 60-130 the new 0-60?
why not mention the 0-60? or 0-130?
maybe its not capable of going anything less than 60 unless its stopped
montoym 12:37AM (9/03/2009)
Because the 0-60 time will not be that impressive. With only 2 driven wheels, 1000hp is not going to get you to 60 any faster than 500 or 600hp would.
They are right, it's all about the in-gear acceleration with that much power.
Purpleslyrpee 1:15PM (9/02/2009)
so 1100 RWHP, so about 1250 horsepower at the crank? am I right?
DAMN! I'm not sure of the extent of modifications but with that much power it must cost twice the price of a murci because at some point the internals wouldn't be able to handle it with modification... could be wrong though...
with that said that thing is HOT!

Why am I not excited? Why would I rather have a hot hatch?
I honestly don't know....

Well to be frank, it's probably because you don't have a brain, or a soul. But probably both...

I've just recently had a fascination with affordable performance, so that could be it. I've stopped dreaming about cars I'll never own with more power than I know what to do with.
It's the recession bro. The recession.

Ok I'll admit, their turbo set up looks like a work of art. No wonder its uncovered.

That turbo setup is BEAUTIFUL. I bet the noise it makes is beautiful as well....

I guess only thing to do is put this in a race with a Veyron..and hopefully it won't be another video of a veyron totally leaving the opponent in the dust.

Heffner does awesome Lamborghini work.
This should be fun.

I would surmise that Heffner didn't actually make this monster RWD. I would guess that either (1) they don't have an AWD dyno or (2) their AWD dyno can't handle that much power. Either way, I would guess they just used RWD for dyno purposes just to get a number. I would be very surprised if they permanently unhooked (let alone removed) the parts required to drive the front wheels. It would be pretty foolish to negate one of the really great features of the Murcielago (namely AWD), particularly when you're doubling the stock (already ridiculous) power. Finally, they could get the power they're making to the ground (with AWD) as opposed to the Ford GT, for example.
My $0.02.
