Skoda teases new Superb wagon ahead of Frankfurt debut

With its innovative Twindoor system, Skoda's flagship Superb already blurs the fine line between sedan, hatchback and wagon. But those crazy Europeans love their wagons, or "estates" as they call 'em over there, and VW's Czech subsidiary wants its slice of the action. So, after releasing the Superb sedan/hatch/whatsit in Geneva last year, Skoda is preparing to unveil a proper extended-roof wagon at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show.
Like the Twindoor, the Superb Kombi is expected to offer a range of six engines – three gas and three diesels – mated to either a six-speed manual or DSG dual-clutch tranny, but may also get the addition of available all-wheel-drive as well. All Skoda has released at the moment is the teaser image you see above along with a short statement, so if you're as nuts as we are about Eastern European station wagons, you'll want to Czech 'em out after the jump.

No, it´s based on the platform PQ46. The actual passat uses the same one, but the interior and Exterior is completly different to other products of the VW-Company.

Nope, it is a complete new car with VAG Components!
I really want to see this car in the USA! (I come from The Netherlands) It is a nice car, German quality (I know, it is a Czech car) and nice priced! You can buy a Passat R36 V6 for about 52.000 Euro or a Superb 3.6 V6 for about 41.000 same options*, same amount of horsepower but a whole lot more of legroom at the back! (Like an Mercedes S-Class!)

Black Leather (Skoda have alcantara/leather VW have Leather/Leather, but you can order the Superb with Leather/Leather for the same price)

As Peter said, it's based on the PQ46 platform like the current Passat, while the Audi A6 isn't. The 1st gen. Superb was basically a rebadged Passat B5.
So while the current Superb shares the platform with the Passat, they have completely different sheet metal, interior, dimensions, etc. The Superb's wheelbase is actually in between the Passat's and the A6's.
The wagon is going to be an interesting car. It's huge and will compete well against the Mondeo (and against the Passat, of course, which is why Skoda wasn't allowed to offer a wagon version until now :D).

The Passat R36 and Superb 3.6 do share the same engine, but not the same power. The R36 has 300hp while the Syperb 3.6 only has 260hp.
Still a very good deal though.

I have ridden Skodas in Israel (taxis). They are very nice and the switchgear is basically from VW parts-bin. If VW cars in the U.S. keep getting a premium pricing vis-a-vis the competition, I could see VW Group bringing the Skoda brand to attack the entry-level segment, eventhough it could risk cannibalizing their own VW brand sales.

The Czech Republic is more Central Europe than Eastern Europe, and it's mostly the Brits who call wagons estates. The rest of Europe, given its use of - surprise! - other languages, has several words for them (break, combi/kombi, stationcar, etc.).
