VIDEO: On board the Radical SR8LM's record-setting Nürburgring lap
Radical SR8LM sets the Nürburgring lap record – Click above to watch the video after the jump
Some of the best sportscars on the road are those derived from racing machinery. But by the time you take them back to the racetrack...well, that's just backwards thinking. At least, that's how it seems when you look at the Radical SR8LM. Instead of making life imitate art that's imitating life, Radical cut the shortest distance from A to B. The SR8LM is that product, and as you may have heard, it holds the new record for the fastest lap time at the Nürburgring.

Are you sure this is the record lap? You can clearly see he bobbles in the very first turn on the video. It also appears that the video is edited.

I've stopped watching after he made a rookie mistake at the start.

Different categories, no matter how good the GT-R is or can be made, it can not compete with a low weight track hogging racer.

Beastage,
I know that. I was joking.

It will get my vote for "worst placed smudge" on a camera lens.

Hmmm probably not the lap record run like others have said.
Race starts at 1:25ish. Ends 8:21ish. Equals 6:56ish.

kfj 6:32PM (8/25/2009)
ok so i googled it.
"Performance is provided by the unique Powertec RP range of engines which includes superbike technology in the cylinder heads and Formula 1 technology engine internals."
and
"Powertec RPA 72° 2.6 litre V8 engine with integral 4 pump oil scavenge system, 2 oil pressure pumps and rotating vane water pump"
HeyHuub 4:09AM (8/26/2009)
2 1.3 inline 4 Hayabusa blocks joined together to make a 2.6 V8 bored out slightly to 2.8.

gee, that isn't fishy. Not in the least. Any chance they just posted the wrong video, you think?

Record or not, that's freaking amazing. Hats off to the driver of the Radical, that was a heck of a run.
I drove the ring in a friend's F355, and did the lap in just over 9:20. The car is certainly capable of much better, but I had only done two scouting laps, and had the owner as a passenger (!). A sub-7 minute time is nothing short of astounding.
One thing that you never see in these videos (even this one), is how bumpy the track is. You don't really notice on your scout laps, but at speed it really is disconcerting how often you feel you feel the suspension unload and bottom out.

record or no, this video says to me why Stewart dubbed it 'The Green Hell' - it's terrifying at this speed.
i drive this course in GT4 with the Oreca Viper or something similar, and go off the track at the left hand kink coming into Aremberg at over 250 km/h and i think; 'i just died right there...'
i know that driver's have died at smaller circuits, but there's something particularly menacing about the 'ring.
