VIDEO: Car and Driver creates the mother (in law) of all driving schools

We could've sworn we heard this idea from Lieberman first. No matter, Car & Driver saw the potential hilarity in the concept of teaching grandmothers the finer points of late-braking and lateral g-forces, too. Mothers-in-law of the buff book's writing squad were recruited for some lapping in MINI Clubmans, and hopefully the amateur pilots walked away with a deeper understanding of just what it is their sons-in-law do. CD associate editor Tony Quiroga supplies the voiceover, and the video is probably not the most exciting thing you'll watch today, but you can see for yourself how the events unfolded after the jump.

Kinda reminds me of the Top Gear (or was it Fifth Gear?) segment from a few years back.

It was in the first season of Top Gear, as I recall. Grandmothers doing handbrake turns and whatnot.

Does Car and Driver have an original idea left? And if you're going to steal, at least make it funnier, right?
This is precisely why print journalists (with a dearth of talent) should not make videos.

I'd say this was stolen from TopGear also but this wasnt really funny at all. Nor really informative. I atleast expected some form of quick note about how they taught the mother in-laws about how to brake late into a corner and how to aim for the apex.. but alas.. 3 minutes of my life somewhat wasted.. Still wish it was funny or information laden instead of a obvious ploy for the step-son to get some brownie points from the wifes mom.

It reminds me of when people post personal home videos up on youtube that you accidently click on and are bored to death. I don't care about their names or what will happen at next years family reunion. I want 1-4minutes of action compressed to a video quality that can stream quickly and effectivly on the intrawebs.

Top Gear has had some fun with Grannies too:

(There's a part 2 to this one too, but you can only put up to 3 URL's in a single post.)

Not very well done. It would have been interesting to hear numbers and how these drivers improved times from the start. It was a waste to watch. The best part was the end when one of the women said, "I'm going to take mine (champagne) home and drink it."
