VIDEO: Porsche 911 GT3 RS doing what it does

Yesterday brought news of the new and improved 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RS. More power from a bigger engine, shorter throws from its six-speed manual gearbox, rejiggered PASM and a wider track for better handling and a don't-eat-the-brown-acid paint scheme all conspire to produce what is no doubt the most track killingest naturally-aspirated 911 ever.
And now we have video! We must say that at speed doing what a GT3 RS is supposed to do, the infantile neon pink graphics don't look nearly so silly. Still, the lipstick on a porker has got to go. Also, mad bonus props for the cantilevered piece of sculpture holding up the carbon fiber wing. Plenty of B-roll after the jump.

Speaking of music...I can't WAIT until they post the version with that awesomely fantastically magnificent Euro-pop-techno crap! That will just make it sooo much betterer. rer. Otherwise it was kinda dull...no Gumpert anyway.

Like music to your ears, that video was brilliant with the well composed soundtrack. Much better than most modern car videos with the trash soundtracks to accompany the brilliant cars, and end up taking the whole video down with them.
Simple, but great. Thanks for a real car video :).

How bored must the Porsche Design team be ? Yes I can fully appreciate the monster that lies within this new animal, but hearing news on a new Porsche is like an MSNBC news flash that Republicans hate Obama.
On top of it, here I thought they had a chance to stun the world with their first full production four door and shock of all shocks its nothing more than a stretch 911 with JLO's rear end. I understand, if it ain't broke..... but how about coming out with a new series to bring some visual excitement back to the brand, instead of mini me's like the " coxster "

if you want styling that changes every other generation, go somewhere else (e.g. Acura)
pgarez 3:46PM (8/20/2009)
Tom, by that I assume you also mean go somewhere else like Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar Ferrari, Lamborghini, right ? You are correct though, because to expect Porsche to take a design risk is counter intuitive, so why moan about it. Well..I just felt like it and at some point, while undoubtedly they could care less because there will always be some bald dentist who will ride his mid life crisis in one, it does get quite sad to see such an obviously astute car company render itself so uninspiring to car lovers. The upside is that if you own a 10 year old 911, no one will know it's that old. I am a see the glass half full kind of guy.

And let me guess you just love the way the corvette looks.
pgarez 5:46PM (8/20/2009)
Kfj,
I understand the little dig, however, the Corvette has required design refining for many years, so the hope there has been to bring a old school but solid design to modernity first. In addition, in comparison with Porsche it has been dramatically more important for Chevy to focus it's time, money and efforts on the driving dynamics first, which let's face Porsche has had wrapped up for many years. Different animals altogether.
Note though that in my response to Tom, my gripe leaned more towards Porsche creating a new line that did NOT look anything like the 911. Plant a new seed so we can enjoy that growth process.
Even with the 911, I am not talking about an expectation that changes will come every 2 years but come on. Look at all of the car mfg's I noted above. Most of them have not evolved , they have morphed, Aston, Jag, Lamborghini and Ferrari. etc.
As I said though, so long as the name Porsche sells to the midlife rich guy, they are too afraid to change, but it's very cowardly and uninspiring. My opinion, obviously has no impact on their bottom line, although I know their hurting right now, but who isn't.
DIdn't realize my comment would offend anyone. I didn't say Porsche builds junk cars, just that their designs are lacking.

I LOVE it as long as its moving, otherwise the lettering, colors and wing make it look like some kids Honda ricer made with parts from Pep Boys. Damn you Porsche.

I don't much care for the other 911s but I love the GT3 and the GT3 RS.
Fantastic cars.

according to Porsche's website, the graphics/accents aren't neon pink - they are Guards Red, which give this an infinitely higher bad*ss quotient...

Good Lord! Poor little Porsche fan boys, so....... so........ brainwashed!
Excuse me but if I'm buying a 2010 whatever, I don't want it to look like a 1985 whatever......no matter how "classic/iconic" the styling is.
So brainwashed...................

Yeah, I think Porsche's pushing that "history and heritage" thing too much. (Like the new Bentley with the out-of-place lights)
The paint job looked appropriate in the 70's with the Carrera RS (still my fave Porsche) but not anymore with the contemporary 911s.

Buying a new Porsche is like going out with an old girlfriend that you haven't seen in a decade, only she hasn't aged a day.
The thing that is so great about the current Porsche's is the fact that you can drive it all day like a hooligan... then go pick up the groceries... and make the omelet inside the grocery bag on the way home!
And you can repeat this process, day in, day out for 5 years before they start giving you grief.

I think the point of this car is to take an existing model and make it a little more crazy than it was before, not to come up with an all-new model. So this is fine as it is, in that sense. The Porsche philosophy seems to be to make the quintessential car in the classes their models fall in. The 911 is the quintessential sports car, especially because of it's design. But in terms of exterior design, the Cayenne is definitely not the quintessential SUV. It should look more like a land rover or land cruiser or something. Boxy. Big. Not sleek, like a sports car, or like a woman's SUV (like the smallish-sized ones from acura and lexus). The Panamera's design is a little more understandable...though I too think they could have changed things up a little more. BUT, the 911 should stay as the 911. The design is great. They should continue tweaking it as they go, and continue with their range of variants of it. But I think they should redesign the Cayenne and Panamera (and maybe the Boxster - especially the back end), and make these models the quintessential entries of their classes.
