Episode #141 of the Autoblog Podcast marks the first time we're joined by a guest outside the Autoblog Inner Circle, and we're hoping that it's the start of a trend. This week, our interview couch is occupied by drift, rally and stunt legend (and all-around good guy) Tanner Foust, the only back-to-back Formula D champion ever. Since Tanner's a racer, we kick off the show talking about the heartbreaking Ferrari crash at Monterey before touching on the Dodge Viper powered Devon GTX and its screaming lap at Laguna Seca.
Actual news starts with talk of the Hyundai Equus coming to the United States, moves on to the Volkswagen Phaeton's supposed return to the North American market, and then to the Spyker C8 Aileron Spyder. Acura's ZDX tickles (or not) our design eyes, and then we wrap up with some of your questions. Agreed. It is a great show. Probably Speed's best non-racing show.

I agree, SPEED's only real non-race show worth watching. He actually drives the cars, unlike most other US car programs.

I think we need to get Carolla on the podcast, too. For the record, we tried to treat Tanner as regularly as possible, even though he is clearly cooler than we are. We also wanted to stick with the format of the show as much as possible, with auto news coming before drooling over a track and TV star. Let us know if you want us to continue in this vein, or if we should just stick to the drooling.

I enjoyed this podcast episode. Tanner had some good input, but he would have done himself a favor by taking 30 minutes to read through the latest postings. He could have contributed much more. I don't want to seem super critical though.
I like the idea of guests and any future guests should probably consider a little preparation.
Oh, and Hyundai must lose the hood ornament.

Dan: agreed on the hood ornament. Crocodile Dundee would use it as a weapon, and that's not good for society as a whole. We honestly are to blame for not prepping Tanner properly... myself mostly. We didn't know we had him until later on Monday, and I hadn't forwarded him the topics we would be discussing until the last possible minute. We'll do better going forward.
