Woodward 2009: The Ford Booth Tour
Ford, as you likely already know, didn't enter bankruptcy this year, and the Blue Oval didn't need government funds to remain afloat, either. That's a good enough reason to throw a party, and that's precisely what Ford did at 9 Mile and Woodward for this year's Woodward Dream Cruise.
Ford had by far the largest display of any of the Detroit automakers, and since the Dream Cruise is all about old school muscle, the Mustang was naturally front and center. In fact, Ford dedicated most of Woodward 2009 to Mustang Alley; a cornucopia of Ford's trademark pony cars past and present that lined both sides of 9 Mile east of Woodward. While the Shelby GT500 is relatively rare on public streets, Carol's 540-hp masterpiece filled Mustang Alley. But Mustangs rebuilt by regular Joes were also well represented.
Ford also has a great display of the latest and greatest from Ford trucks, including a couple brand new F-150 SVT Raptors, along with a killer DeWalt F-150 complete with Ford's Work Solution package. The appropriately yellow DeWalt truck even featured a connection for an air compressor above the rear bumper.
Other Ford vehicles of note include the 2010 Fusion Hybrid that Ford is using to challenge the media to see who can get the best fuel economy and a 2010 Taurus SHO with a law enforcement light bar. Click on the gallery below to check out the best from the Ford booth at Woodward 2009.

At almost twice the price of a Crown Vic, I think you'd only see that package in the wealthiest towns.

Fully-kitted, yes. One would assume that an SHO Police Interceptor wouldn't come with all the amenities of the civilian version. Besides, the base V8 Dodge Charger comes with an MSRP of ~$33,000 - not much less than the SHO (~$38,000) and marginally less fuel efficient (16/25 mpg Charger vs. 17/25 mpg SHO).

I'm just gonna come out and say when I saw the MKT in person, I realized what it would look like if you modeled a car after a Water Buffalo.

The only reason ford did not need federal assistance aka tax dollars, is because they had took out equity loans on their factories to gather quick cash before the credit crunch! That type of thinking is a major reason the U.S economy went into recession ! God forbid should things not ever improve with the car industry and ford go bankrupt, not only will ford add to the unemployment rate but will add to more bank trouble with lost debt! I dont think ford should be celebrating at this point! GM is now postion better then ford is and I rather buy from GM then ford at this point!

The financial meltdown resulted from a lot of things that culminated all at once. Surely you aren't likening Ford taking out loans (some of which they have paid back) to: homeowners taking out multiple HELOC, signing up for mortgages that they could not afford, not paying attention to their ARM financing and living well above their means? If you are, then you aren't very familiar with how a business functions. Are you aware of the type of funding that product development ties up? I'm guessing you don't have a clue.

I Hope that South Carolina and North Carolina Highway Patrols and law enforcement officers in Tallahassee, Florida, Cincinnati, Ohio, Columbus, Ohio, Indianapolis, Indiana and Charlotte, North Carolina get those 2010 Taurus SHO's in the near future.

When I saw the new Taurus at the MCA show in Birmingham, and again at the All Ford Show in Carlisle, I felt that the shape and size were somehow awkward. When I saw it again and the SHO on Woodward, I was used to the size and shape and could see the car better. I was blown away. Just like the Edge, the Flex, and the 3-bar grills, I now love the look and expect the Taurus will do well.
I was far less impressed with the Camaro on Woodward. The Challenger and 2010 Mustangs looked far more appealing. I wanted to show a thumbs down to the Camaro owners but kind of felt sorry for them.
My biggest disappointment on Woodward was not finding Matt pissing on a Ford sign. I had hoped to kick his ass, or at least complain to his mother.
My biggest laugh? A Prius cruising Woodward. That was just wrong in so many ways. I cried.
