Tramontana R - Click above for high-res image gallery

You might think it would be hard to miss a car like the Tramontana R, but we almost did just that amidst the hustle and bustle of the events in Monterey this week. Only the unique front end and cockpit-like roof helped us spot the car from distance, and we immediately stopped what we were doing to go check out the car where it was on display near the Pebble Beach lodge.

In person, the Tramonta R is simply stunning. The exterior is pure functionality with wings, splitters, spoilers, intakes and diffusers all used to direct air flow where needed. All of the body panels are constructed from carbon fiber, as is the monocoque cockpit that houses dual inline seats. The performance specs are those befitting such an outrageous supercar: a twin-turbo V12 pushing out 720 horsepower, 6-speed sequential transmission, 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 202 mph.

With production of the Tramonta R limited to just twelve units per year, we made sure to get a good look because it very well might be our last. A high-res gallery of this unique exotic can be found below.

Fascinating car. I don't know yet if I like the looks but it's too different NOT to like completely.

I'll bet it's incredible to sit in and drive. Like a low-flying fighter jet. I'm trying to imagine what it must be like. Is there any place for missiles or a 20mm rotary gun? Cause I'd buy one on the spot, if it did.

I think I might be the only one who likes this car. The only thing that I don't like is the red "R" letter. It seems just out of place.

So.. it weighs nothing, makes 720 hp, but it only goes 202mph? I figured it'd be quicker..

That may be the ugliest thing ever conceived by humans. Honestly, the multiple pictures just go to show that there is no angle from which that car is not nauseating.
You're right, the G-forces produced by this vehicle would be quite nauseating, perhaps even traumatizing.

Aren't those numbers about what a ZR1 can do? I expected better based on how insane it looks.

      Still awesome, though.

It's like the higher end AMG cars, It becomes a point where too much power is really too much and can't be used...This is another example..
0-60 times in the 3 second range are tractoin limited, not power limited. When you're making 600+ hp, you're at the mercy of the coefficient of friction of your tires and your suspension setup. Also realize that setting up a suspension for turning often hurts the straightline performance.

As far as the top speed, that is probably a lower priotirty than the corner grip. Any racer would gladly give up a few mph on the top end to gain a few mph through the corners. So, they added downforce to help the cornering and sacrificed some top end.

Not to discredit the ZR1 (it is my dream car), but the Tramontana thing could run circles around it, assuming there is a driver who could handle it!

0-60 and top speed numbers shouldn't be the basis of comparison for true performance cars

maybe the 0-60 times don't improve, but I bet the 100-200mph times are way better than the ZR1.

        Probably EXTREMELY traction limited.

If I wanted to make ugly uglier, I would hire the folks behind this vehicle.

Further proof of a fast-approaching zombie apocalypse. Better to get one of these. http://alturl.com/v89h

Fifth Gear did a brief road test of this, you can probably find a video somewhere online...

I just threw up a little in my mouth. All it needs is a railgun mounted up top and Kurt Russell at the controls.
