MINI bumper sticker makes fun of Cash for Clunkers

You've seen the license plate surrounds that read "My other car is an Enterprise Rent-a-car." Well, in a Cash-for-Clunkers age, what if your other car is headed to the scrap heap because you wanted to buy something friendlier? Then Mini has a bumper sticker for you.
It's part of a marketing package sent to Mini dealers and up to the dealer to use... but if you swap that Oldsmobile Aurora for a John Cooper Works, there's no reason you shouldn't let the world know about it.

CARS crushed clunker = (Mini)atured.

Making fun of the program? Wouldn't this bumper sticker suggest that the driver happily took advantage of the program?
Erik 2:41PM (7/31/2009)
"something friendlier"
Please, you are not really buying into the greenwashing of the CARS deal, are you? You really think destroying a perfectly good Aurora and buying a new Mini is doing something good for the environment?
A better bumper sticker might be:
"This Fancy New Import Cost Taxpayers $4500"

EXACTLY.
Bravo on that comment, even though I don't usually care whether or not people buy domestic or import.
nrb 4:51PM (7/31/2009)
Or as I saw somewhere else:
"I needed taxpayer money to buy this car".

Nooo remember it's good to spread the wealth, everyone in America wants change(read sarcasm).

@Eric
Who said the program was meant to be green? Not even the government said that. In fact, it's a bill to boost the auto industry and dealerships.....and it works very well for everyone that way. Take the head out of the sand for a sec, this sort of knee-jerk reaction makes me sick.
Erik 9:41AM (8/01/2009)
Nick, you're kidding me, right? It's virtually impossible to find an article about CARS that does not extoll its green virtues and all the "good" it's doing for the environment, which of course is total BS.
Also, take a little time to look up the meaning and usage of phrases like "head in the sand" and "knee jerk reaction" before you use them. It'll make you sound a little more intelligent and a little less like you're just regurgitating phrases you read somewhere online.

While I agree that this program isn't necessarily the best, your comment is a little misleading. The extra $2B appropriated for the CARS program was already designated for other projects; congress didn't add to the deficit in order to fund it. I am not sure if that was the case with the original $1B, but the fact is we won't pay *extra* taxes in order to fund something that *is* boosting car sales.
Hamud 2:42PM (7/31/2009)
AHhaahah, funny indeed.
But I guess that should read "The gov. gave me 4.5K for my old car so I got this one, fack the environment."

It is not making fun of the Cash for Clunkers.
It is making fun of the cars that were garbage that were traded in so that people could buy their cars which qualify for the program.
They are asserting their superiority as an automaker.
Why would they make fun of a program that benefits their sales greatly?

I am surprised the snobby Prius owners didn't come up with that. Or maybe they did and even joking about having previously owned an "ungreen" car is not acceptable.

+1!
Saw a Prius the other day here in downtown DC, riding on 18" wheels. Looked even dumber than when it was all-stock; forget about the increased rolling resistance from those stupid huge wheels and tires.

Ditto. The only sticker on my car is an Apple logo over my nasty looking front roundel. It's basically a reminder to myself to replace the emblem at my earliest convenience.

Sweet, so where can I get one?

Idiot, the cash for clunkers bill not only benefits individuals, dealerships, the auto industry, but the government quickly recoups the $4500 in the form of fees related to the purchase and registration of the new car.
The bill is working very well, but somehow, you managed to knee-jerk the President for something imaginary. Wow are you dumb.
