Ruh Oh: Florida drops all charges against woman framed by police for traffic accident

This is just... well, decide for yourselves. A Hollywood, Florida police officer rams into the back of a woman's car. Three other cops arrive on the scene and they concoct a fictional story about a cat jumping out of a car, and the officer thinking it's a pedestrian, thereby causing the accident. They then pinned a DUI charge on the woman. The cops even went so far as to change the angle of the pictures to make it look like the woman swerved in front of the police car. And it gets worse from there -- and it's all caught on the video. One of the officers says on tape (NSFW language), "I don't lie and make things up ever because it's wrong, but if I need to bend it a little bit to protect a cop, I'll do it -- She's freaking hammered anyway."
All charges have been dropped against the woman by the Broward State Attorney's Office and all four officers are now on administrative duty pending the completion of the investigation. To paraphrase Dave Barry, only in South Florida.

Dirt bags, everyone of them.

If that cop was running emergency, why would he pull over a car instead pursuing his "emergency"? And an ambulance...also an emergency vehicle.

All those 4 officers better be FIRED and never allowed to take any government/civil positions.

Your spot on with the ego, but also the power abuse. My parents had a bad experience with an officer (we live in S. Fl also). They were hit from the back at a stop light coming back from a wedding. The woman who was obviously drunk, called her cop "friend". The guy showed up and immediately talked to her...as he walked away she actually had the nerve to sit and lay back on the hood of his cop car. As I understand in an accident report the person at fault is written first on the paper, guess who was asked for information first. They were lucky a woman driving behind her even stopped and told the cop that she was watching this woman swerve all over the road and even tried to call 911. My parents were also one of these people that donated to the local sheriffs office every month, it's really a shame. A new bumper and a threat to sue....and said cop even stopped by their house to apologize, but the damage has been done.

nothing i hear cops do surprises me
i am always stunned at the suspension w pay that is the usual punishment for getting caught trying to ruin people's lives
as long as the punishment is so disproportional to the crime, cops will continue to pull s*^& like this

LOL @ at the cop hate...as god knows you guys would be the first to cry for help in the event you'd ever need it.

@ futurama
at first i thought you wrote all 4 of those officers should be friend, but after being fired, they should be FRIED too.
finally finished the video...haha, then to top if off, he tells her "we shall take care of it for yoooooou" in a totally michael scott (the office) tone. not professional
and ok, w/out having to watch the whole thing again, they wanted to say that a CAT jumped out of HER car. not in front of her car, but OUT of it?!?!
moa 4:38AM (7/31/2009)
yes, they should be fired. but not because they did what they did, but because they plotted the whole thing in front of mic/camera. they are too stupid to handle guns.
MoeJoe 4:08PM (7/30/2009)
I believe it.
Who is watching the watchers?

can you believe that in some states, it is illegal to record video or audio of a pig trying to frame you?
have you ever pulled out your cell phone and started recording a cop, they freak out. the idea that they might be held responsible for their actions is offensive to them

It is NOT illegal to record police in any state so long as you are on public or your own property. Police lie to you when they tell you that. They don't like to be surveilled, but .

The state of New Hampshire disagrees with you - http://www.examiner.com/x-536-Civil-Liberties-Examiner~y2008m12d11-Arrested-for-recording-the-police-on-your-own-property

This begs the question, how many times have cops gotten away with something like this?

I daresay, probably a lot more often than we think. And not just in southern Florida, but border-to-border and coast-to-coast.

All the time. Cops lie on the reports ALL THE TIME. Meeting quotas, covering their own asses in the event of their own stupidity, their massive egos, etc. All of these and more reasons. There is just not enough defense for someone when it's their word against some cop's...even if the cop is a blatant liar. I hate to say it, but most cops are scummier than the people they arrest. Whether someone is guilty or innocent doesn't matter anymore. It's significantly cheaper to plead guilty than to get a lawyer and fight it in many cases. This makes it so most of the lies never see the light of day again. That, friends, is a tragedy. Now in case there are any cops out there that want to chime in, I have met decent cops. They are few and far between though, sadly.
