In case Richard Hammond's spectacular jet-car crash wasn't enough to convince you of the inherent dangers of filming British television's top car shows, the presenters of Fifth Gear have given us another startling reminder.

Barrowman, who plays a character who cannot be killed on Dr. Who spin-off series Torchwood, was driving the £120,000 rally-spec Subie with Needell riding shotgun when the actor lost control of the car, sending it over the shoulder and flipping several times down the hill before coming to a rest on the shore of a lake. Paramedics arrived at the scene and removed glass shards from Barrowman's eyes before taking both to the hospital with no major injuries. Check out the video after the jump for the segment -- a stark reminder that enthusiasm and ego aren't a suitable replacement for talent.

That was fun! Glad they are OK!

I'm a little surprised at Tiff and the 5th Gear crew. Those are HANS-specific 2" harnesses, and they weren't wearing HANS devices. That's a no-no...

Yes, Subaru are strong even without roll cage. My Outback rolled over 3 times and I thought I would be able to drive it back home! But tire rod was bent too much so I had to call towing...

Nice! That's what can easily happen when the red mist sets in, and you drive at 101% of your ability. It sure looks like they had a lot of fun, even with the crash. I'm glad everyone was all right.

I wonder if Fifth Gear will ever make it back to the States? I loved it when they carried one season on Speed Channel a few years ago.

Look carefully at 7:23... you can see the camera glass shatter in Barrowman's direction... that's the glass that got in his eyes...

he does pretty well considering he's not trained. don't forget that rally drivers stuff their cars - and even get killed - all the time.
Well, they should let more novices drive rally cars because this is entertainment!
You'd think they would be driving someplace flat with a novice at the wheel.
        that wouldn't make interesting tv.

If it was top gear the car would have rolled then exploded...

Thank goodness John and Tiff are okay! We need John for the new Torchwood series.

Agreed. I love both of these blokes for the entertainment they have provided me and glad to see them laughing at the end.

Springtime for Hitler and Germany, winter for Poland and France and the Subaru.

The (unsuccessful) attempt of the 800bhp Fiesta at Pikes Peak:

This might be actually only a practice/test run but it is still amazing (especially in HD).

Prolly one of the better HD vids I've seen on youtube ever.
