Hello? Chevy reportedly vows to call Camaro owners who may have bad transmissions

Last week, we told you about a problem some members of the Camaro5 forums who own V8-powered SS models equipped with the Tremec six-speed manual transmission were reporting. The owners were experiencing a broken output shaft on hard launch; a serious problem that will likely render their brand new Bowtie pony car immobile. General Motors responded by putting a hold on V8 Camaros with manual trannies at its Oshawa assembly plant, but until now, there hasn't been a definitive plan for replacing the affected transmissions.
Camaro5 is now reporting that GM will pick up the phone and call all owners who may have the defective gearbox, presumably to schedule time at the dealership to fix the problem parts. GM told Camaro5 that the calls will take place in a couple weeks, after an internal investigation regarding the issue is complete.
At this point, we don't know what happened to cause the problem with the Tremec 6060 transmission, nor do we know exactly what parts GM will need to repair. What we do know, however, is that we'll update you as soon as we have more information.

So not a recall? GM's just calling to inform customers of a TSB for their cars? Kinda cool, not sure anyone else does this normally.

And why haven't any of us 2008 and newer Z06 owners gotten any of those calls?
we have tr6060's as well and a tiny percentage of failures as well.
You'd thing the $75k car would get the attention from GM

I believe the Z06 and Camaro SS use two different models of the Tremec 6060 so I wouldn't expect a call any time soon. :/

Besides, nobody's gotten a call from GM yet. You can't complain about being left out when GM hasn't even finalized who they will be calling...

The reason why your Z06's are breaking is because of your left foot. Your Z06 is a transaxle with the differential bolted to the tail housing, and its not the same as the Camaro's transmission. Similar, but not the same.

you are right about the differences. but the tiny percentage of z06 trannies that are breaking are not breaking the same way. The number of camaro failures have been even fewer, but they are getting instant attention. My z is not showing the symptoms but I'd like to know GM is supporting the t6060. And no, it has nothing to do with our "left feet." There are synchro issues with a small number of t6060 trannies...for all new cars that are coming with it. Trust me, all c6's are incredibly reliable, I'm just saying that its obvious they are giving the attention to the launch vehicle which is getting a lot of the spotlight right now but they should offer the same attention to all their products.
btw, other cars with the 6060 have been having similar issues. Its a relatively new tranny and there are bugs to it.

At least GM is fessing up to their error.
Do a search on the Honda forums for Civic SI or RSX-S transmission problems. Not a peep from Honda corporate, despite plenty of very unhappy owners.

For real. Not only did Honda never issue a recall (only a couple of TSBs, and they only apply to cars still under warranty), but some Honda dealerships aren't even qualified to perform the fix. I took my '06 Civic Si to the dealership in Independence, MO, and they told me that Honda HQ told them they weren't allowed to fix the 3rd gear problem. The next-closest dealership (which is in Kansas) was able to fix it, but it's quite the inconvenience driving 40 minutes to get my car fixed when there's a dealership 10 minutes away.

Those Honda transmission problems can be repaired through warranty, or if you're out of warranty, through good will through your dealer. Not sure what exactly you are talking about.

Took mine and got it fixed in a day. I happen to have a good relationship with that dealer (not the same one that sold me), zero questions asked.

@HotRodzNKustoms: Except that driven hard would not generate the kind of mass complaints that this is. Unless every Camaro owner drives their car to the ground this smells like a faulty car than owner abuse.
