Bugatti Veyron vs Nissan GT-R - Click the image above to view the video after the jump

The Nissan GT-R is a quick car by most standards. In fact, with all-wheel drive and traction control system, it's frighteningly fast. Pull up next to just about any other car at a stoplight and you'll undoubtedly come out ahead. That is, of course, unless you happen upon a Bugatti Veyron. The Bug matches the Nissan's AWD system and doubles the number of turbochargers and horsepower. As our man Jonathon put it in his first drive of the Bugatti Grand Sport, you don't accelerate in this car, you evaporate.

While a heads-up drag race between the GT-R and Veyron is an unlikely occurrence in the real world, Evo Magazine took it upon themselves to pair the two cars on an open airfield. Just how much faster is the Bugatti than the Nissan? Watch for yourself after the jump.

      Dear Evo,

Faux-vignetting does not a Top Gear video make.
@Brad, totally agree. That was some horrible camera work and a horrible Top Gear attempt. Why did they even stage this?

        Evo? LOL.

Similarity: they both have the same stolen-off-a-Ferrari tail lights

Big deal, I had a Suzuki over 15 years ago that would kill these things in the quarter. Think nines at over 150 and I rode it regularly on the street on pump gas. Probably only had 10 grand in it. A stock Hayabusa is probably quicker too, but I would have to look that up. However, it is damn hard to launch a motorcycle properly.

The Nissan only lost because of the camera equip on the roof. Too much extra weight and drag at speed.

But seriously...that effing Veyron is STUPID fast. Guess that's what a million dollars gets you these days...kinda makes me wish I worked at AIG or Bear Sterns...

Yeah I pretty much am an idiot! I may have overreacted. But I blame my sarcasm detector.

Ray, you just one the freakout of the day award. Congrats.

So basically, what you're saying is... that you're not too bright

The bugatti is just insanely fast. The nissan looks nice in its own right but when put next to the gorgeous veyron it just looks like a turd on the side of the road (that everyone is ignoring in most of the video, haha).

I've seen enough of these high speed runs in a Veyron. At some point I'd like to see it on a track. GT-R vs Veyron on a lap of Suzuka circuit... now that's a video I can get behind.

This video is crap. What is with that stupidly annoying music?

Let's hear all 22 cylinders and 6 turbos screaming!!!
That was exactly what I was going to post. This is one of the worst supercar video's I've seen, because all it is is crappy music. I wanted to hear the cars. Lame.

I must say, though - I have no interest in OWNING a Bugatti, but I would LOVE to drive one for an hour. hehe
        • 5 Years Ago
Agreed f* horrible music!!!!! Why? Why do they do that?
        - 45 seconds of weighing the cars
        - 20 seconds of cars standing around
        Who cares?

And when the cars are doing something, we get a pair of hand-held cameras that aren't even tracking the cars in the center of the image.

The music was probably because they didn't have a parabolic microphone tracking the cars.

I like how they tried to create suspense with their provocative cinemavideographentology

I think we all knew which car was going to have it's ass handed to it.... Veyron is the fastest OEM production car on the planet no one going to beat it unless they modified a vehicle to race and beat it but then that vehicle will no longer be considered a stock production car....

        Ok thanks for your insight.

I'm gonna buy a Veyron and soup it up to make it really fast: spoilers, en Evo bodykit, some sweet dubs and a turbo! Seriously that was pretty pointless. Let's see a drag of a VW Beetle with rockets strapped to it vs. a Veryon!! Yeah!!

I think we can understand and admire both these cars for what they are - on different scales. The Veyron shows us what the limits of modern technology can do when price is no concern. The GT-R shows how modern technology can lower the cost of supercar performance to a fraction of what it takes with traditional techniques. Further down the scale, the Tata Nano may be just as impressive in how it achieves its own, totally different goal.
