$300k Alfa 8C Spider the most expensive Alfa Romeo in history?
If you're hoping to get your hands on an Alfa 8C Spider, well... take a number, because really – who doesn't? The open-air version of the highly coveted – and almost universally admired – 8C Competizione, the 8C Spider is a product of pure demand. But with only 500 examples set to be produced and just 35 of those destined for American shores, only a handful of eligible parties will get them. And those Yanks who are lucky enough to do so do will have to pay at least $299,000 for the privilege.
That list price alone – confirmed to Autoblog courtesy of Maserati North America (which is handling the model's distribution) – makes the 8C Spider the most expensive production Alfa ever. But with demand far outstripping supply, you can bet most of them will be trading hands at far higher prices than that – at least in the short term. That's is no mean feat considering present economic conditions.

1 Leg, 1 Arm, 1 kidney, part of my liver, my first born, and my soul... that's what I'd give for that car.

Hey, when you think that you could get 4 fo them for the price of one Veyron, I say they're a bargain! They sound a lot better too....

Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale was probably even more expensive, as it was the most expensive car available for sale in US in 1968.

So, does that mean that Chrysler won't be getting any Alfa's to bolster their image somewhat?
I thought the whole point of the merger with Fiat was to utilize Chrysler's existing resources. But it appears that Alfa Romeo will be only be sold alongside the Maserati and Ferrari in their own dealerships.
Why buy Chrysler if you're only going to let them wither and die?
FIAT should be handling the compact and midsize car categories and selling them at Chrysler dealers.
DODGE would only only push their truck line with Charger, Challenger and maybe Viper to entice those wary buyers. Journey and Caravan fit nicely here also.
JEEP would handle the 4WD realm.
CHRYSLER would still peddle the upscale 300.
But ALFA ROMEO should step in here and offer upscale RWD compact and RWD midsize cars. The Alfa SUV could be added later (based on the Dodge Journey?).
Then, to really boost customer interest add MASERATI to the line-up and watch BMW, Mercedes and Cadillac cringe. Lincoln will just fade away after that.
Top Chrysler dealers could also sport the iconic Ferrari.
That kind of program would build Fiat-Chrysler into one of the most formidable retailers in America.
"Performance engineering" would be the by-word for this new entity.

This would certainly help Chrysler, but I don't think Fiat wants to damage the Ferrari and Maserati brand names by associating them with Chrysler. I'd expect to see Fiats and maybe some Alfa Romeos (not the 8C) being sold alongside Chrysler.

Funny considering how many people covet this car, the 8C in general, it does not seem to be that coveted by people that can actually buy it.
The Rolls Royce/Lamborghini dealer down the road from me has had a red 8C for sale in the showroom for at least 4 months now. Maybe longer.

Dear Fiat, how hard can it be to mass-produce this design on let's say a Brera platform...

Olivier nailed it. Can someone please explain to me why it is so prohibitively expensive for car makers to put a decent looking body on an affordable car? Every day I ooh and ahh at online galleries of Ferraris, Maseratis, Alphas, the Veyron, the CCX, Lotuses (Loti?) and I wonder why in the name of all that's holy we are subjected to the abhorrant tripe foisted on us by the art school dropouts penning entry-level sports coupes and sedans.
Why couldn't the Chevy Cobalt have the body of an Aston Martin DB9? Of course I'm not looking for clones here, mind you, just for the sake of argument I'm asking what prevents cheap cars from actually looking good. I know some people would say it is a travesty for hot looking cars not to have the chutzpah to back up the image, but honestly, in the US we're victims of vehicular castration anyway so what difference does it make?
I promise you that within the next five to ten years some jerkoff legislator is going to ram through a federal mandate that interstate speed limits be dropped to 55. So if we're going to crawl across the highways and byways at speeds slow enough for bystanders to take in every visual inch of our cars, they might as well have something to look at.
So all that said, this car is disgustingly hideous. You need to go look up a picture of a real C8 if you think that this cross-dressing 'Vette is a ringer. I honestly can't believe there is even a market for this crap.

Nice!
A $150k nice. But definitely not $300k nice!
Even at such limited edition, this car will not hold its value!

How much?!
The 8C is horrible to drive with a roof - this I can only imagine will be a whole world of pain worse!
Still, it ain't exactly ugly :)
