Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano with HGTE package – Click above for high-res image gallery

Life is tough, we know. You sit for months on a waiting list, drop six figures, order your Ferrari just the way you want it, and then bam! They come out with an even better version. What's a supercar owner to do? Well in the case of the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano and the Handling GTE package unveiled to go with it at the Geneva Motor Show just a few months ago (shown above in yellow for the first time), we've got good news as Ferrari has announced the availability of the package as a dealer-installable kit on existing 599s.

The package includes a host of enhancements to the GT's already superlative capabilities, grouped into four areas: handling, performance, exhaust and aesthetics. Handling includes a suspension lowered by 10mm, magnetorheologically re-calibrated and stiffened by over 15%; beefed up in anti-roll bars, and stickier tires mounted on upgraded modular wheels.

The performance enhancements include new exhaust silencers, upgrades to the transmission software that cut shift times down to 85 milliseconds, as well as new lines of code that summon improved throttle response. The performance kit can only be installed on post-2008 models with the sequential transmission, while pre-2008 or manual-equipped models can get the exhaust kit without the remapped throttle and transmission.

Finally, the aesthetic improvements consist of a new front grille and Prancing Horse emblems front and back in a burnished finish instead of the usual chrome. The only thing which the dealer-installed HGTE kit doesn't include from the factory-equipped models is the interior trim package. Released first for the British market, the kit costs £19,703 (~$32k USD), or £17,213 (~$28k) without the upgraded transmission and throttle calibrations. Check out the fresh gallery of images below and follow the jump for the full press release and an in-car video of the HGTE-equipped 599 pouring on the heat.

The recently-launched Handling GTE option for the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano is now also available as a Ferrari Genuine Accessories package for dealer fitment, with two options available according to the customer's specific requirements and age of vehicle.

The options are:

Model Year Ferrari Genuine Accessories available Fitted price (from) *

Pre-2008: Handling, Exhaust and Aesthetic kits £17,213

Post-2008: Handling, Performance, Exhaust and Aesthetic kits £19,703

* Final price will depend on specific kits required and model year of car. All prices are excluding VAT.

To demonstrate the enhancements offered by this exciting addition to the Ferrari Genuine Accessories range, the attached video and images of a 599 GTB Fiorano fitted with the HGTE package should convince existing owners to consider upgrading their cars to this new specification. The video and images are available free of copyright for editorial use only.

The full specification of each kit is detailed below:

1) Handling, includes:

* Lower suspension (10mm)
* New magnetorheologically controlled suspension calibration for the Manettino SPORT and RACE configurations
* More rigid suspension springs (front + 17%, rear + 15%)
* More rigid rear anti-roll bars (diameter increased to 25mm)
* HGTE specific tyres with improved compound (8% more grip)
* 3-piece modular rims with reduced weight (forged spokes) and special new design

2) Performance (only available for post-2008 cars, from engine no. 122779), includes:

* New exhausts silencers with two-tone finish tailpipes
* Enhanced F1 gearshift actuation, with response times reduced to 85ms
* New accelerator logic with modified mapping for improved throttle response

N.B. The Performance kit cannot be installed on cars with manual gearboxes.

3) Exhaust, includes:

* New exhausts silencers with two-tone finish tailpipes

The Exhaust kit is designed for:

* vehicles that cannot receive the software updates listed in the Performance kit since the engine was produced before assembly number 122779 (pre-2008)
* all cars with manual gearboxes
* clients who are only interested in modifying the styling and sound of their own cars

N.B. The Exhaust kit is included in the Performance kit, for cars post-2008.

4) Aesthetic, includes:

* New design front grille with a special chromatic treatment
* Burnished finish to Prancing Horse symbols on the front grill and rear boot lid

Wow who cares, it's not like your mulling over whether you want AC or not in your Civic, you're buying a Ferrari, might as well check every option on the list.

Also, those wheels look fantastic. That is such a nice looking car.

Ah, I see it now, they replaced the front grille with mesh. Honestly, it looks much better this way.

No comments on the video? Man that car sounds amazing, not to mention the driver caught a little air at 2:40ish! Beautiful road, that looks like a total blast!

I was going to say Ferrari must be stupid for thinking people will pay this kind of money for slight (although noticeable) upgrades. Then I realized that many Ferrari customers will undoubtedly pay the price. Who's stupid after all?

My local dealer tells me that 599's are available for immediate delivery at list price. Recession having an impact apparently.
Nah, people are buying the F430 and not the (better) 599. so there is a surplus of 599s sittin around. Has been happening for a while now.

a $40,000 upgrade for your $320,000 car is not bad. i mean thats like buying rims for your truck.

I think it just has an impact depending on where you live. I'm with Mike7, I live a little further south in Ft. Lauderdale and the dealership around the corner from me is expanding. I wanna say it's already one of the largest in the world (Shelton/Ferrari of Ft. Lauderdale).

        What recession?

Within the past 6 months or so, a local Mitsubishi is now Lamborghini Palm Beach, a small shopping plaza became Palm Beach Maserati, and now said plaza has been knocked down to create Palm Beach Ferrari set to open in December.

The recession must have been good to some; all that money must be going somewhere...

These cars don't sell like they want you to believe.
I live in Michigan and the local Ferrari dealer has a 599 in stock as well as an F430 and they have been there for a while plus tons of Gran Turismos that are deeply discounted.

Another dealer has a Alfa Romeo 8C, a Veyron and a Spyker that have been sitting in the showrooms for months now, and 5 feet away the Aston dealer has a DBS and 3 Vantages that have been there for a while.
