Rendered speculation: 2011 Audi A6
The next generation Audi A6 sedan is about a year away from its debut, but if this rendering is anything to go by, this year's Sportback concept will be the primary influence for Audi's redesigned mid-sizer. The Sportback provided the biggest evolution of Audi's design language since the debut of its massive shield grilles earlier in the decade. The updated look includes more surface development in the nose and the possible production debut of a new hexagonal grille. The headlight clusters have a shape that's pinched toward the center of the car, in a similar fashion to the taillights on recent models like the A4 and Q5. At this point we don't know what the greenhouse will look like, but a change from the rounded shape of the last generation seems likely -- and overdue.

You say boring, I say understated and classy.

Really? I think it looks slick and stylish without being overwraught or showy.
To each his own I guess.
Now let's just get a bigger, torquier V-8 in there .....

I'm not so sure I like the direction that Aud is going. They're in a good place right now, and they need to just focus on refining things in my opinion.

yeah
this one seems to be sad for some reason.
i still think that they are playing it too safe and their designs need a bit more imagination as to me they seem very boring

There's a lot to be said for simplicity though. Besides, they're usually better looking than their BMW or Mercedes counterparts.

i think the A7 will be one of the most gorgeous 4-door cars out there and i think the new grill design fits it very well. as far as the A6 is concerned i don´t think they can do anything wrong if they keep the design similar to the actual one. minor changes is the way.

Nice-looking rear and side views, but the grill kind of spoils it. To my eyes, it is way too enormous and doesn't fit with the other proportions of the car.

I agree. I never liked the whole "4-door coupe" thing. I really do hope it gets scrapped.
Last I heard, the major concern of the A7 was it canabalizing A8 sales (which again, I dissagree with), but I was suprised to hear it so many times from so many top-level people.
I guess if they deceide not to move forward with the A7, then it would make sense to use some design elements for the A6.

I think the current Gen A6 is amazingly boring and outdated to look at. I think it was outdated when it came out just a few years ago. I think part of it is the flipper door pulls. Almost every other car has pull type door pulls and the flipper ones look very 80s or 90s.

the generic front end doesn't help. This redesign should, especially if they bring the A7 interior into the mix and lighten things up (in terms of interior feel and overall weight)

The "flipper" door are less noticeable than the "pull" type. The flipper style pulls on my 08 A6 Avant operate nicer than the pull style on my 07 Saab 9-3 SportCombi.
BTW, I agree that current sedan is nothing to write home about. But I think the current wagon is one of the best looking 4 door cars on the road.

That looks like a nice move away from the current design themes.
I want to see this thing in full.

Good god, that interior is aweful. The exterior is trying to look too much like the craptastic flavors of the newer BMW's and the interior is just hideous. What is with that wood? It looks like plywood with lacquer on it.

Hope they change more than just the front & rear clips, Audi design was clean and different 10 years ago but its getting very generic as of late, saw a base A4 the other day and thought it was a Hyundai, only thing keeping it current are those cool LED DTR lights.

Anybody else disappointed by how every new sedan seems to look more and more like a hatchback? I mean, it looks so bad. Short decks look good, but no deck, imo, makes it look long and tall, which is very bad. The new XJ, the new E, now this, what's next? I like sedans because they have a hood and a trunk. Sticking a hatch on a huge sedan looks terrible. I hope this is not the new trend.

I might be part of a minority who really likes Audi's (very recent) design language. It happens. However, I don't get the point of making an A6 that looks so similar to the A7. I know the A7 is supposed to be a bit up market and obviously the A6 has a proper trunk lid. But from the simple standpoint that I saw this news article and assumed the picture was of an A7 I'm at a bit of a loss. Maybe in person the dimensions will speak volumes, and perhaps designers will differ their treatment of the LED/Corporate Waterfall Combo. Then again, this might just be the danger of adopting such a distinctive/ "iconic" front fascia. Audi might want to consider making their model design language speak louder than it's corporate counterpart.
It might also be that this rendered speculation is just that...RENDERED SPECULATION, and I wasted time typing that out. In which case *(shakes fist at the heavens)
