Style and Substance: BMW X6 with M Sport Package to get power upgrades?
Enthusiasts who had hoped for an M-worthy performance upgrade may be disappointed by the largely cosmetic M Sport Package recently announced for the flagship 7 Series. But while purists have balked at the idea of a full-on X6 M (pictured above), buyers looking for a little extra oomph from their sports-activity-whatsit were undoubtedly satisfied. So it may come as a little surprise that BMW is reportedly preparing to launch an M Sport package for the X6 that also includes some power upgrades.
According to reports, the oil-burning X6 xDrive35d with the M Sport package will get a boost of 20 horsepower to 306 courtesy of the recently launched 740d's powerplant, while the twin-turbo xDrive50i will increase output by 42 horsepower over stock. Of course, there will also be a special body kit and bigger 20-inch wheels along with the requisite badging of the X6 M Sport package, all of which gives those who want a little extra sport in their ute but aren't interested in the full-on X6 M a solid choice in between. Expect the package to hit the market later this year.

I beg to differ in regards to the 'style' portion of the headline. I find these hideous and have only seen two on the road.

x6 looks nice, you have no style

Sorry 'Bruno', I just don't find this attractive. It's a matter of opinion and my opinion is that this is ugly. Sorry I don't have your 'style'.

banana2011: if BMW X6 M is beautiful, what other words are you going to use for VW Passat CC, Aston Martin DBS, or Audi S5?
zamafir 2:18PM (7/09/2009)
@KC you were out in left field comparing the X6 to the A5 and Aston but the CC comment catapulted out of the stratosphere. I think the X6 looks better than the X5, but I’m not going to be placing it on my top 100 attractive cars list. Besides, the title is irrelevant from the get go, few cars lack substance as much as this one. “but what” you say with giddy sophomoric joy “no one does the unique to X6 class of combining the worst attributes of a 3 series coupe and an SUV”. Who cares. Cars like this, it’s hard to discuss them seriously with fans, any credible point (less interior volume than a hatch, and slower too) doesn’t stick. I’ll tow the “it’s beautiful” line on Aston’s entire range, some audi cars, the 3 series coupe, etc. But this is not an attractive bastard child of a coupe and suv mating, it’s not incredibly intelligent, it’s just there to eek a bit more profit out of a platform getting old in the tooth. Props to BMW, just don’t expect everyone to get all warm and gooshy over it.

Zamafir relax, you're missing the point. KC is saying that to apply the word "beautiful" to the ugly X6 is to so devalue the word and its synonyms that you can no longer apply them to the three cars he mentions.

Whether someone likes/dislikes something is a matter of personal opinion. I think it's really illogical to approve/disprove someone's else's choices. In my opinion, the X6 looks much better in 'real life' i.e. on the road. In the pics, it looks a bit 'unnecessary'. lol! But the Aston Martin DBS and Audi S5!! Those cars make me like this world again! ;)

OMG, these things are like German Asteks. Hideous. I remember when the General used to make one or two special cars and call them SS. Now, they make everything in an SS thereby totally cheapening the designation. Way to follow a proven record, BMW. Now, M means Marketing :(

As much as I hate the pictures of the X6, I was shocked to find it MORE revolting in person. It's so far off-scale and ill-proportioned that it's shocking to walk past in a parking lot.

People will still buy this abomination just because of the badge.

I'm not an SUV hater by any means. I like them alot. But unless I was a BMW badge humper, BMW SUVS would be near the bottom of my list. Its was good that they had the gaps filled with the X5 or X3 but these crossovers and M versions are making me sick. Maybe they should put some of these resources into making their interoirs more stylish and getting rid of those 1980s style gauges.

Still ugly. I live in So Cal and have only seen (fortunately) two of these abominations on the road.

I'm one of those who sees no reason for BMW to build SUVs so I kind of like this offering. If they have to make an SUV make one no one else would. It has little practicality obviously but I don't suspect that the people who buy luxury SUVs are really into practicality. They may say they are but then they would have probably spent 30 grand less and bought a proper SUV instead of a 'statusUV' like a Caddy or a Mercedes or a Bimmer.
Also after seeing the X5 and X3 I'm glad BMW finally built a good looking SUV. Those two are ugly and awkward and have 'why BMW should not build an SUV' written all over them. Sometimes design language does not translate, just ask Porsche. Their 911 in a fat suit SUV is odd looking at best and then there is the 911 stretch limo called the Pantera.

Ugly, overpriced and useless vehicle.
I have seen exactly none of these on the road.
