Jay Leno filming Star in a Reasonably Priced Car for Top Gear?

Citing an unnamed though supposedly reliable source, the boys at Jalopnik are reporting that Jay Leno – fresh from his appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed where he's believed to have piloted an awesome McLaren F1 GTR up the hill – was spotted filming a Star in a Reasonably Priced Car segment today with the blokes from Top Gear. What are the chances we'll get surprise appearances by Leno's Tank Car or EcoJet?
Assuming this rumor turns out to be true, we fully hope that Jay can properly represent American gearheads by outlapping Jamiroquai lead singer Jay Kay, who currently sits atop the Star leaderboard after knocking Simon Cowell off his perch as the quickest celebrity in Britain.

Leno is my car idol, but there's no way he'll get the top spot on the lap board. He's a hot rodder, not a wheelman.

+1. I live in Sherman Oaks, a few miles from Leno's hangar at Burbank Airport and I occasionally see him driving some of his collection around. He's definitely a cruiser, not a racer.

Thought Usain Bolt was this week's scheduled celebrity...
...or they could have just done what they did with Simon Cowell's most recent appearance... and taped it now while they had a chance, and will air it much later in the season.

How many Americans have been in the SIRPC segment? The only other person in recent history was probably Mark Wahlberg. Most are European, mostly British.
Should be interesting, although I too am not sure Leno will get a super low time. I wonder what Clarkson would have to say about the tank car...

Assuming he did pilot the F1 GTR this past weekend, what was the time? He might be a better drive than we think, but in the end I think they need somebody like Tim Allen with some real wheel time.

That would be cool. I would definitely enjoy spending an afternoon drinking beer and wandering around Jay's garage(s) with him.

It's about time. Jay Leno's a gearhead and it make perfect sense for him to be on that show. Jay was already on a segment with James May about the Clarity. He will get along just fine with Jezza.

Jay's chin would never fit under that SIMPSON helmet!

This makes me think of the go kart races Leno and Paul Newman, RIP, did. If he cared, Newman could have surpassed Jay Kay, but i don't see Leno doing it.
I wish they had more driving enthusiasts on the show. Sly Stallone and Jason Priestly, for example, would well represent the U.S.. They have a concept of a racing line....unlike Michael Gambon who carves his out of the rumble strip.

Jay makes a good guest for TG, but unfortunately, having the ability to buy many cars does not necessarily make one a good driver.

Jay Kay from Jamiroquai was hilarious in that episode! I was glad he knocked Simon Cowell off the top. It would be awesome to see a 'yank' go to the top of the board though!!!

Jay will make for a good interview, he's a great gearhead and his depth of automobile knowledge should give Jeremy plenty to talk about; however, I don't know that Jay can lay down a highly respectable lap time.
He truly loves cars and that's what counts.

I wanna see Patrick Dempsey in the SIARPC because he's a celebrity that races!
