In what is doubtlessly the briefest press release we'll read today, Honda has finally officially confirmed what we've known for some time now – the Japanese automaker will gain a new genre-crossing model called Accord Crosstour, with sales earmarked to begin this fall as a 2010 model.
Presumably, by calling it an "Accord Crosstour," Honda will also be able to neatly fold in the rakish new crossover/wagon/hatchback model's sales figures into that of the Accord upon which it is based – all the better to take on Toyota's Camry at the top of the sales charts. Check out Honda's official press release after the jump.

Only it will actually sell because it's Japanese.

Oh, and how long until Toyota bombs the U.S. roadways?
Motor_Yakuza 4:05PM (7/07/2009)
Nope, it's the new 5 Series GT, let's hope that it won't as bad as the german abomination.

You're absolutely right Tdogg.
Blake Luttrell 4:38PM (7/07/2009)
No.

It looks like a Chevy Citation mixed with an Aztek to me.

@Tdogg "Only it will actually sell because it's Japanese."
Got a problem with that?
Peoples' brand loyalty to japanese cars is no different than your brand loyalty to american cars.

No I haven't.

Whatever it is, it's ugly. I'm eagerly awaiting the day this "crossover" segment dies. The only one that kinda works is Audi--the ZDX, X6, Crosstour all look horrible.

It's just a 5-door hatchback based on an existing sedan. For some of you who weren't around in the 80's and 90's, maybe you're surprised to know this isn't exactly a new genre of automobile.
Enigmatic 7:33PM (7/07/2009)
Bill, I agree. What's with all the hate? It's just an Accord with a bigger rear end and the Accord is a fairly good vehicle. For those who need the extra cargo space, seems like a reasonable buy.
North America hasn't looked on any wagon-type vehicle favourably lately (regarding sales), so the fact the no one finds it aesthetically appealing isn't surprising.
Aki 8:21PM (7/07/2009)
The hate is because:
1) it's like a wagon, except more useless with the boot space.
2) It's sort of like an SUV with its clearance, but without the utility.
And no, it's not simply like a five-door, ala the Saabs from the 80s and 90s--you fail at observation. They're also trying to make it look SUV-like. I wouldn't mind if it were simply a 5-door, but they've jumbled a bunch of different styles, making it look worse.

Suddenly the ZDX and X6 are less "special" Regardless, they're all pretty "beat' looking.

Well, at least we know that the Acura ZDX's production proportions will look like, lol.

So, it's a wagon without the usefulness and the name?

But the "wagon" name isn't "cool" at the moment. But to answer your question, yup!
Oh yea, and probably with a better drag coefficient.
Jared 3:41PM (7/07/2009)
Yup.
Compared to a wagon, the Crosstour has less room, worse visibility, and is far more ugly.
Honda, if you want to sell a wagon, then grow a pair of balls, build a wagon, and call it a wagon. You might actually sell a few, as VW, Audi, and Subaru have been doing for the past 20 years.
Henry 4:53PM (7/07/2009)
This is what we get (America) for rejecting station wagons. Funked-up sedan/hatchback/squished-SUVs mutations that are less attractive and less functional than a good old station wagon. When will we get over it?

"You might actually sell a few, as VW, Audi, and Subaru have been doing for the past 20 years."
"Few" is the key word. The best-selling cars are sedans like Accords and Civics, not wagons. Yes, I think it's ridiculous and I wish every sedan would come in a wagon variety, but we can't blame Honda for not making a full wagon when carbuyers are the reason they died out anyway.
