VIDEO: Top Gear takes on the Mercedes SL 65 AMG Black Series

When Jeremy Clarkson has the keys to a 660 hp supercar, you know you're in for a heck of a ride. The affable BBC host took the reigns of twin-turbo V12-powered Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG Black Series, and we're pretty sure the Top Gear team needed to change its rather expensive tires at some time during the shoot.
The SL 65 AMG Black Series tore up the tarmac and even took on the company's own (much more expensive) McLaren SLR, but did Clarkson like it? Lets just say that he compared seat time in this super Benz to sitting on a pile of stones. It seems having 740 lb-ft of torque at your beckoning call isn't always a good thing, either. How horrible... I guess too big of an engine does spoil your fun eventually, at least on a track. Should win the hearts of many in the United States... can't argue with that motor, haha.

The editing in that video was magnificent! I loved the white lines.
And TG said we would notice a difference in the show this year because of the budget cut! I think this season has had some of the best editing so far.

I was actually quite shocked when Clarkson gave it a general thumbs down. He has always seemed like a man who has enjoyed his overpowered Mercedes. The one problem I have with the review is when he pits the Black against the SLR he does not mention the SLR is a convertible which if you listen to people like Clarkson when they talk about torsional rigidity aerodynamics blah blah blah makes a big difference. Personally give me the car without a roof, I could even do without roll up windows.

I may be the biggest hater of Mercedes on the planet, but I still think there is a place for this outrageously fast, outrageously uncomfortable benz. Props to MB for making a no-compramise beast out of a chassy that was never desinged to go around corners fast in the first place. The thing looks nasty as hell, and when they all sell at insane prices, I hope other manufacturer's take note.

He has a point when he was talking about overtaking, you either floor it and traction control instantly kills all the power, you floor it and spin up the rear tires, or over take using partial throttle. If you can't use all the cars power in the one maneuver that requires the most power in day to day use, a nice swift overtake, whats the point in having it?
