These are said to be pictures of Dacia's coming crossover, caught in a Dacia facility in Romania. Said to be based on the Nissan Qashqai platform and using four wheel drive tech from the Nissan X-Trail, this is another in a line of vehicles with which Dacia wants to take its brand to the world. Names mentioned include Duster and Steppe, and production plans call for one million units per year at a price of €12,000. It is expected to be officially unveiled at next year's Geneva Auto Show. You can have a closer look at it in the gallery of high-res photos below. Hat tip to Ironick

On the back window, it says Dacia Elf...that *could* be the name, no?
That really looks dated though...

NO, ELF is from Renault :)
m7hartmann 8:20PM (7/05/2009)
It will certainly not be called elf, because elf is the name of a french oil company (TotalFinaElf). It's logo is often present on Renaults.

ELF is a french oilcompany, a longtime partner of renault (see motorsports).
that Dacia looks pretty good compared to what they sell right now!
and the price is more than competitive for a quasqai platform and (ok not bradnew)
x-trail 4whell tech.
I wonder what the workers in Romania are paid, the crazy thing is I guess for them it is a pretty good paicheck.

as much as i love high-end cars, and as much fun as it must be to design a sky's-the-limit automobile, the most creative designs have to come from the bottom up. to create an interestingly styled car that adheres to strict cost limits, strict production limits, and perhaps even 3rd world production capabilities is where true genius must reside. this car looks very interesting to me. the panels look a bit difficult to press, but i'm sure that's all be considered. i know Dacia is basically a low-cost Renault, based on a Nissan platform, so i guess we're not talking about 2CV levels of simplification is needed. i think it's pretty cool looking.

Not too hard to imagine a Saturn logo in that grille, is it?

I'm not 110% sure of the present day values, but in 2007 the medium salary was 400 Euro a months, it has probably gone up but i'm confident it's less than 600 Euro.
