Leaked: Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2

Oh baby. The cat would appear to be out of the bag for the Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2, as what certainly look to be official photos of the newest bull have hit the web. Details are sketchy, but Lamborghini's naming scheme keeps no secrets. Assuming this is all on the level, expect 550 horsepower from the V10 mounted aft of the cockpit, with that power going to the rear wheels exclusively. The lack of AWD should also result in some weight loss, a welcome addition in any sports car, much less a Lamborghini making this kind of power. And yes, that's a ball-topped gated shifter in the interior photo featured in the gallery. Glorious. A very serious car for very serious drivers. We're dying to hear the official details.
UPDATE: It's now official. The car is named the Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni, in honor of Lambo's legendary test driver. Only 250 cars will be made.

I have always loved the open gate shifter. I wish more cars would do it. So much cooler looking than a leather boot. I'm glad Lamborghini is bringing it back.

Lambo still offers the manual as standard equipment, but you almost *always* see the e-gear robotized box nowadays. I love that the stick is the showcased gearbox in these photos. It further underlines the seriousness of a monstrously powerful RWD Lambo.

Its because a leather boot is much cheaper than a cool-looking metal gate with engraved numbers and all... and I doubt plastic would hold up to the abuse shifters go through.
Lambo and Ferrari still make them :)

I remember hearing/reading that only 1% of Lamborghinis sold are traditional manuals.

Title and body say "550-2." Gallery says "560-2." Which is it? I would assume they're using the same engine was the 560-4 and therefore it should be a 560-2, but you guys put 550-2 in two different places and mention 550hp, so I was just wondering if they detuned the engine by 10 horsepower for the 2wd version...

That is what is I like to refer to as a "typo." It's been fixed.

Cool. Thanks. Just curious.

I think these are 'official' renderings more than photo's. From the enlarged pictures, they look a lot more like photoshop renders than a real photograph. Still a nice looking car though.

Besides the color, this looks exactly like the Gallardo that's on sale right now... the only changes are to the drivetrain and suspension.

I don't get it, what sets this off as a RWD car? I don't see any badges or anything that indicate 550-2. Was this floating around the rumormill before and I just missed it?
