2010 Toyota Prius Harmony commercial - Click above to watch the video after the break

By now, we've all probably seen the commercials from Toyota's latest marketing campaign for the 2010 Prius hybrid... and we've all probably developed an opinion about them. Any time an advertising campaign is as interesting and different as this one, there are bound to be opposing viewpoints either favoring or strongly disliking them.

Fortunately for Toyota, it seems that more people like the commercials for the 2010 Prius than not. In fact, Toyota's "Harmony" spot topped Nielsen's Top 10 Most-Liked New Ads list in May, and the "MPG" commercial came in at #3. For what it's worth, an advertisement for Coke came in at #2.

If you've somehow managed to miss these commercials on television since the campaign was launched back in May, we've pasted three of them after the break for your viewing pleasure. Oh, if you don't like the American marketing campaign, there's always the Japanese commercials with Superman – or better still, check out Casual Mafia's "In My Prius" sendup.

People liked these? WTF, that makes no sense.
The Toyota Pious - the official car of all sanctimonious, holier-than-thou, environ-mental hippies, yippies, and yuppies everywhere...

Showing this commercial more than once is one time too many...
The first few times I saw the commercial, I thought it was very good. The next six thousand times I saw it, I grew to hate it.

The people who enjoy these ads are the same %99.99 of the population who've never heard of autoblog.com. Goes to show you how far out of touch you are with the rest of America who doesn't think about fornicating with 5-door hatchbacks most of the day.
        These ads suck ass.

I liked it. in fact, i like it because it is unique and well thought out. this commerical doesn't try to bash other cars like most of german car commerical (except Mercedes and Porsche). the commerical state prius' strength, not other's weakness, especailly not making fun of the next closest competitor.

I don't know what environment most of you guys live in, but my experence taught me that a great person would never look down on other people. a billionaire, especailly self made ones, never showing off his/her wealth by laughting at an average joe. only assholes would always bark for attention by bashing other's mistake. and i am talking about you, vw and audi.

you never see Mercedes bashing other makers to show off their prestige.
you never see Lexus bashing other makers to show off their quality.
you never see Ferrari bashing other makes to show off their performance.
you never see Miscrsoft bashing Apple to show off their market sheer (the opposit is not true)

bottom line, when you are the best at what you do, you don't need to show off.

      Very childish. Horribly ugly vehicle.
Priuses and the people that drive them annoy me so much that I don't think I could ever like anything associated with the car.

So many douche bags in Priuses on their cell phones in the fast lane going 40mph hypermiling on the Bay Bridge during my commute to work.
        Hate much?

        THANK YOU!!!

        My sentiments exactly...:)

From an ad perspective, I think the Prius spots are brilliant.
They convey the "green" message Toyota wants to send, and it's hard to argue with 50MPG, especially when gas prices get back up to 4-5 dollars a gallon.

I also think the new generation Prius looks a little better. It still has the world's lowest aerodynamic drag (.25), another fact that's hard to argue with.

I'd actually consider buying one, right after I find a good, 2-year old Boxster S .

Who were the surveyed viewers? Toyota employees? These commercials make me want to change the channel almost as fast as if Oprah was on it.
First of all, god is that thing ugly. Second of all, the damage has already been done to the environment...trying to help it now with these types of cars will only slow the inevitable.
wow that made me want to stab my eyes with a rusty ice pick that has been sitting in fecal matter.

Those commercials freak me out. The kids look like a cross between oompa-loompas and the boogeymen from "March of the Wooden Soldiers."

I love autoblog. Same people, two results: Ford Taurus comments are all sunshine and roses and the sunshine and roses car are 90% negative.

I bet y'all are free marketer, conservatives too! Funny when that market starts to work and G8s and musclecars fail while Priuses prosper.
Doesn't matter if the commercials are liked or not. Bottom line is they either seem to be working or the car sells it self. Maybe both? I wish I had my hand in the prius profit jar thats for sure. As for the conservative part, I learned my lesson when I found out how many people here hated California and wanted it to break off into the ocean.

Awww, you wuv the Prius. Your not a troll.

        @Kattleox

Are you really comparing a Miata to a Prius???

Hmm.. my friend drives a Camry.. and it SMOKES all miata (even the SPEED). The Camry is cheaper therefore the Camry MUST be a better sports car??? NOT..

In order for you to get 40mpg in a Miata you have to drive like a GRANDMA! (I have a MR2 Spyder and get 28-36mpg). But that is with a decent amount of hwy driving. If I sit in traffic for 20 mins every morning on the way to and from work then it gets about 26.

The Prius - in order to get "only" 40mpg you have to drive it like you stole it (yes it is possible to do). Your average driver (5-10mph above speed limits) and peppy driving will net you at least 46mpg.

Plus the prius will haul 5 people and 2 full size suitcases. What will the Miata haul?? 2 people and a Carry-on???

Come on.. your comparison is retarded. My wife has a Prius and we love it. I drive my Maxima or MR2 to work (because its only 2 miles) but the Prius is a great car. I still drive a tad above the flow of traffic with it and get a consistent 48mpg.

        Troll? Please. Get over yourself.
when will you figure out that people just hate what we have? I remember everyone used to complain about bush and gas guzzlers not even a year ago, and now that cars are becoming gutless electric pansies people swing back the other way a little.

I drive a miata and get 40mpg. I have a friend with a prius who gets the same. I can tell you which one of us is happier with our cars and from that, I can assume why you and your angry inferences love the prius.
i hear you luis. a lot of people here are pretty partisan, which is why the editors throw out some red meat to get the comments churning, usually involving the prius, stricter enviro standards, the obama administration, etc.

not too many people here just like and are interested in just cars, cars from anywhere.

        ah well.
Its a discussion about the commercial, troll. The Taurus post was about the Taurus. You make my prescription drug post below believeable.

        @Kattleox

Offtopic: But how are you liking that Miata? is it an '09?

It definitely looks great and is a great performer, but I'm puzzled as to why the Miata is labeled as a "Chick" car.

The whole "Chick" car label puzzles me to no end. What kind of magical attributes align a car to a gender?
I'm a Democrat, and I don't like or want a Prius. It looks horrid.

Just because you hate a certain car doesn't mean you're aligned with a certain political party or a set of principles.

I honestly didn't expect this much politics from a Car site. Not enough Car talk and too much politically charged insults.
      I cant stand these ads.
I prefer how the Prius is portrayed in the Jetta TDI ad.
VW Bug: "And there's always the engine sound: vrooooom, [joined by the Prius-owning neighbor] errrrr, rrrgh"
        They both laugh.
VW Bug: "So what's your hybrid sound like?"
Neighbors mouth gapes open and he makes an exhaling sound "hoohhh..."
        VW Bug: Dat's cool.

Way, way, way better commercial. Hilarious, too.
        This ad shows Volkswagen desperation.

They know Prii are way more efficient than their dirtly clatterboxes diesels and even more dependable. And no car is as fugly as Volkswagen Dung Beetle.
        "This ad shows Volkswagen desperation."

I agree, but only because of the 58mpg claim. They come up with a way to break a very obscure record and then present it as a probability for you. bah
        • 5 Years Ago
Hopefully the VW ads will be the beginning of the end of the Prius being cool.
Great ads i do not why there is so much negativity here towards them.
It's the Ford/G8/Malibu fanboys. Just ignore them.
