Spy Shots: Ferrari 599 GTB Spider?
The crew from CzechFerrari made an interesting discovery in an unknown location: a Ferrari California-bodied prototype with an awkward removable roof. At first glance, it's easy to dismiss the mule as just another California being readied for testing, but peering through the driver's side window reveals an interior that's noticeably different from the entry-level Fezza – it's closer to the Ferrari 599. While it's hardly conclusive evidence that Maranello is working on a convertible variant of its V12 super-tourer, it's compelling nonetheless. And with rumors of a drop-top version circulating for months and a facelift right around the corner, Ferrari could be preparing a 599 Spider before the new model debuts in the next two years.[Source: CzechFerrari]

taillights look like thode from a california. given the customer type isn't too worried about the lack of structural rigidity.

I do like the 599. It is like Ferrari to have a vert version to almost every model these days, F430, F430 Scuderia, and now a 599 GTB variant? interesting.

Yeah i didn't read the article. to me the flying buttreses bring such a unique look to that car it would be a shame to loose them.

They could still keep through either building a really trick folding hard top or a glass folding top like the one found on the Superamerica. Like you said it's one of the unique features of the car and something their design team is very proud of so I can't envision a 599 without it. It's not like Ferrari skimps on the technology or innovation on their cars, with the high price tag on Ferrari's they can afford R&D to make a convertible with the fly buttresses... if they wanted to.

can't they just use the roof they have on the California?

I do hope it is a 599 spyder. It would be my perfect modern Ferrari. By the way it would be a 599 GTS
