Autoblog Podcast #132
It's Episode #132 of the Autoblog Podcast, here for your listening pleasure. Starting off the conversation this week is Ford's announcement that the Mustang will finally be getting a new V6 to replace the aging 4.0-liter. Moving on, we chew on the idea of the Alfa Romeo 169 and Chrysler 300 sharing a platform via the Fiat tie-up. NASCAR's sort-of embrace of the Mustang and Challenger is next before we contemplate a hybrid Jaguar and then spend a good amount of time answering some of your questions. Thanks for all the feedback, keep it rolling in to us at Podcast at Autoblog dot com, and we'll keep cranking out the weekly 'casts. Check out Kurtis listening to the podcast!

Thanks so much for taking my question, guys! You were absolutely right about my reaction - "wow, that's me." I really appreciate the advice, too, and Dan nailed it with the GTO suggestion. It was such a flash-in-the-pan car that I entirely forgot it existed. I'm going to track a couple down to see if I can get behind the wheel and form an opinion.
I'm all about the G8 idea, too, but unfortunately you have to pony up for the GXP to get the stick, and unless you know a Ukranian hustler that sells them out of a shipping container down by the docks, I'm not sure I'm going to find one under $25k.
Take care, guys. I already can't wait for next week's show!
P.S. I was just kiddin' around about the baby-crazed fun haters. I love 'em, too. Heck, I wouldn't care about having a cool car if I weren't trying to lock one in myself, right?

Not to be a downer, but I'm starting to miss the old Autoblog Podcasts. They used to be more focused on auto news, reviews, and associated topics. Now it always seems to be focused on listener questions which ALWAYS leads to discussions on the C6 Corvette, Camaro, CTS, etc. It'd be one thing if the questions which were chosen were based on a certain topic or thought, instead of "which car should I buy?"

I really enjoy your podcasts. I wish there was some way to meld the website with the podcasts. I mean, I find myself relating more to your podcasts than your site. You guys are just good to listen to.
I think you should have or add a call-in portion to the show. Or, have a guest on the panel of discussion from us website visitors.
Is this podcast streamed LIVE on the web? Or only in podcast form later on?
Any way, I enjoy it.

Could you possibly change to taging the "genre" as podcast rather than speech? It messes things up for Sandisk Sansa players (btw 2nd most popular mp3 players out there). If I don't retag it as a podcast everytime I stop the podcast to pick it up another day, it restarts at the beginning, and it would take forever to fast forward to where I left off.
Thanks.

Good Afternoon Guys,
I have been an avid listener of the AutoBlog podcast for nearly a year now and look forward to each episode. The guys to a very good job with their witty banter as they go back and forward during each episode.
Every week the guys field questions from listeners so this week I thought that I would toss my hat into the ring. Could you please forward my questions to them.
Thank You
It seems as though there are a bunch of folks looking for something fun to drive in that $10,000 ---> $15,000 dollar range. Fortunately for me my budget is a bit more, and I like to know what their/your opinions are on a 2002 or 2003 BMW M-5 {the e39 version}? As a family guy, with three kids, this seems to be the perfect compromise between the nimbleness of a M-3, the roar of a good o'l V-8, seating for 5, and timeless good looks. The fact that it is a manual transmission...even better.
I have owned sporty sedans in the past ( Audi A-4, Lincoln LS, (2) SVT Contours, Nissan Maxima SE) and currently own a 2003 Saab 9-5 AERO and a 2008 Honda minivan for extended family trips. Much to my shagrin, the minivan must stay and I will keep the 9-5 AERO, for I can get three booster seats across the back, need something that can handle the snow, plus I get 27mpg combined and I drive 18--->20,000 per year. The M-5 is obviously a third vehicle; one that I would like to keep for many years to come.
I would really appreciate their opinions are on the E-39 M-5? Have they driven one/reviewed one?
Thanks a bunch

I like automotive trivia as much as anyone and enjoyed hearing that bit about the origins of the Ford Essex 3.8L V6. So much that I went to wikipedia to read more. Turns out the story is false; "a common, but erroneous, belief is that the Essex was based on the 5.0 L Windsor V8 engine".
