2009 24 Hours of Le Mans begins...

2009 24 Hours of LeMans Start - Click above for a high-res image gallery
The green flag dropped a few moments ago on one of the hottest days in Le Mans history. The No. 8 and 7 Peugeots are in the top two slots, followed by McNish in the Audi R15. We're assembling a few galleries from yesterday's Driver Parade and our walk through the pits this morning, so stay tuned for more live action from LeMans.
UPDATE: The No. 3 Audi, piloted by Premat, during its third lap, although it didn't hit the wall. Damage seems minimal.
UPDATE 2: The Audis are trailing the Peugeots by between 3-4 seconds a lap.
UPDATE 3: Gallery of the start added. Best noises: Corvette rumble and Aston P1 high-pitched shriek.
UPDATE 4: The safety car is out after the Pescarolo Peugeot hit the works Peugeot in the pits. The tire is shredded, debris has coated the track and undoubtedly, the guy the waved the Peugeot out is being berated as you read this.

I think Speed is broadcasting it on their website.
I woke up this morning just to watch this race. I have a feeling the #7 Peugeot (or the #9 w/ the more experienced driver) will come back late in the race once they fix the car up... That's if it doesn't blow up because of all the wear that destroyed tire caused. Peugeot also needs to get their pit game together, those few seconds a lap they gain will be wiped out quickly if they keep fubaring it up in the pits.
Although the P1 race between Audi and Peugeot is great to watch, I'm enjoying the little battle between the Corvettes and Ferrari in GT2. The Vette's are by far the best sounding car out there when they get a drive-by shot.

There's just no excuse for those cars hitting in the pits like that.
Peugeot must not be that serious about winning if they can't be bothered to communicate with their satellite team that's RIGHT NEXT TO THEM!

Another prime example as to why Peugeot will NEVER win another Le Mans title. Having a fast car doesn't mean jack when it can't finish the race because of a lack of mechanical reliability, and having an incompetent team.

Aston Martin might prove themselves to be one of those teams also.

The AMR Lolas have had some trouble but pretty much everyone has. Audi has, Peugeot has too. There's still two AMR cars in the top 6 which ain't bad at all.

They just mentioned on the SPEED broadcast that the entire race is being streamed on their website.

Last year I found a couple of misc live streams. But the video was choppy. I'm still looking, since I'm certain SpeedTV's will at some point go nascrap and we'll all be left blanked.

Unless something changes, Peugeot are comfortably ahead.

yup, just like the last two years, 21 hours is a long time, and Peugeot has a history of letting themselves down.

There are japanese teams driving Porsches and Lamborghinis. Why no LeMans entries from Nissan or Acura?

peugeot will win this time cause some Audi drivers were too stupid to
keep their cars on track early on. only one un-crashed Audi R15
left.

You're right, loosing your rear suspension clearly means the driver is at fault. If only Luhr had used his Jedi mind powers to stop it from happening. On top of that, talk about the pot and the freakin kettle: Peugeot are the ones that have had some serious driver errors like, oh I don't know, maybe a collision in the pits? Fail...epic fail.
Frankly I'm happy to watch these folks knock each other around so the Aston team can claim a podium finish.
