VIDEO: GM re:invention commercial gets the spoof treatment

GM re:invention spoof video – Click above to watch video after the jump
We'll start off by saying that this spoof on General Motors' Re:invention commercial is not exactly fair and not exactly accurate... but it is funny. It comes from an Onion-esque type website with a decidedly sharp take on GM's situation, with story headlines like "GM Kicks Dog, Takes Candy from Baby" and "GM Kills Electric Car, Five Others in Shooting Spree." You can watch the original commercial and the spoof after the jump. Make sure you have your sense of humor switched on.

A commercial full of liberal stereotypes that will undoubtedly tickle the fancy of Prius driving liberals. The commercial says GM has been screwing the customer for 100 years. Really? Is that how they got to 51% of the market? Is that why they built tanks and planes during WW2? Is that why they gave millions of workers middle class wages and benefits? The people who made that commercial are the types of idiots who think Toyota makes its profits by selling the Yaris and Prius.

LOL yes, these are all the liberal stereotypes.
*rolls eyes*

"Liberal stereotypes"?
I really hate it when Autoblog turns into a political rant. Let's not forget all those health benefits you're talking about are the first things GM is cutting as part of its restructuring. And what exactly is a "Prius driving liberal?" Not everyone with a hybrid vehicle is a hippie latte-drinking lesbian in San Francisco, despite those stereotypes, as well.
Look, sure this spoof commercial is exaggerating -- that's the point -- but everyone knows GM has lost the luster of its former days. Lots of other companies were wonderful 50 years ago, too. Many of the ones that are still around from that era still are wonderful companies. GM is not currently among them.

Awww, someones wittle feelings got hurt. You know.. my grandfather (R.I.P) got a Pontiac Bonneville every 2 years for over 30 years, you know why? Because they were designed to fall apart after 2 years because Ford, GM, and Chrysler were the only ones selling cars back then. I have no pity for the D3 at all, the writing was on the wall back in 73, they said they would start building quality and efficient cars. Here we are again...

Lighten up, Francis. You're gonna get your conservative panties in a bunch....
Aki 1:56AM (6/06/2009)
Ehh, you realize it's the LIBERALS that are typically in favor of govt. intervention, and that fiscal *conservatives* are the ones against giant unions, govt. spending? You have it the exact opposite.
paul34 4:46PM (6/06/2009)
Ahh yes. Ridiculing the inefficiency of government and lazy business is really such a "liberal" thing to do.
Give me a break. If you call yourself a "conservative," you're one of the most pathetic I've ever seen.

They gve millions of middle class workers wages and benefits because:
1) Ford did it first.
B) The workers threatened strikes if they didn't.
GM has done little or nothing out of the goodness of their frozen corporate soul over the years. I've been working in auto marketing for over 25 years, and the 1 year I spent with GM as a client was the worst of my career. Dealt with the most ARROGANT pricks I've ever met in my life. Despite the fact that they are now making the best cars they've ever built, I'll never own one. Period. Fortunately, I can still drive a Ford. Only because they also are making some great products, and haven't screwed nearly as many people over as GM.

I must say that the vehicle in the picture looks nice.

Wow. Like the voice over, a response, but one lacking in depth.
Tim 4:24PM (6/06/2009)
No it has depth. It's deep in your bum.

I rest my case.

There should be Emmys for Youtube videos. That was freakin' awesome.
Absolutely love the line about ignoring the customer!

Hey Shethj-
If it weren't for a liberal president there wouldn't even be a bankrupt GM at the moment. I'm sure you blame liberals for everything that doesn't agree with you. Was it Southern liberals who were against the bailout, no it was Southern conservatives. Jeez, get a clue.
My experience tells me that disliking GM is a bi-partisan BUT I agree with you that only an American public would take such pleasure in kicking an American company when it is down and ignoring all the good the auto industry has done. I think a funnier video could have been done on bankers and MBAs.
