VIDEO: The best motorcycle save you'll see all week

Raffaele de Rosa's amazing save - Click above to watch the video after the jump
Without a doubt, one of the scariest moments in any motorcycle rider's life is the split-second just before a high-side. This kind of accident often takes place after a turn is taken at high speed and the rider attempts to accelerate out of the corner. The rear tire loses enough traction that it slides out of line with the front wheel, then quickly regains its footing, snapping the bike violently upright. Almost always, this results in a nasty spill, making high-sides extremely dangerous.
This exact scenario played out during the qualifying round for the 250cc MotoGP race in Mugello. Honda rider Raffaele de Rosa was near the end of a fast lap when the bike lost traction and then quickly snapped back up, very nearly throwing de Rosa off the bike. Obviously a skilled rider, he was able to ride the bike as if it were some sort of rodeo bull, remounting the machine and returning to the pits. Truly amazing, and we highly recommend you click past the break to watch the video. Tip of the

Nice, even on a 250. Now, try an 800 pound BMW K1200LT. I once hit a false neutral downshifting while wearing the fairing lowers away in a curve, got confused, had the bike snap back into gear, and then rode the bars looking like Superman... only to land back in the saddle, pointed in exactly the right direction. Yes, it was a very happy accident, and I wouldn't try to duplicate that again on a dare. IOW, luck, not skill... still. ;^)
I bet every motorcyclist with over 100K miles has a story or two.

Yep... anyone who rides regularly and rides hard will have stories: I had a scary highside moment that tossed me clean off the bike. Unbelievably, I did a full somersault & landed on my feet first. I managed a few awkward steps before stumbling and rolling over. I wasn't hurt at all, and managed to get up in time to see the bike rolling down the road by itself. It didn't even fall over: someone managed to grab it before it slowed down too much.

Only have 80k on my SV650, but am a daily rider. Too many stories to remember... most end with "Thank God for torque!"

That is awesome!!!! Apparently he didn't want to slide for about a 1/8 of a mile with his bike next to him.
