VIDEO: Forza Motorsport 3 trailer, game info released
Ahh, yes. We've been waiting a long time for this. Microsoft Game Studios and Turn 10 Studios have announced that the third rendition of the Forza Motorsport franchise is coming soon, and from the looks of it, there will be plenty to rejoice over. Forza 3 promises to be even more of an evolution than the previous installment, and the developers appear to have addressed the improvements we were hoping to see in the new version. Graphics are massively improved, with ten times the amount of polygons used than Forza 2, and each car has been greatly detailed including interiors which were left out previously. Car selection is excellent (more than 400 from 50 manufacturers), as we expected, and the game's stable has been updated with new supercars like the Aston Martin DBS and the Audi R8 V10 that is featured on the cover. Perhaps the most exciting news is the availability of over 100 real-world tracks, significantly more than the meager selection in Forza 2. Also new is a "season mode" that creates a personalized racing calendar with more than 200 events including Circuit, Oval, Drag, Drift and Timed Events.
Of course, many of the features that we loved in Forza 2 have remained, including the fantastic multiplayer mode on Xbox Live, the numerous tuning options, and the ability to create infinitely custom liveries in the paint shop.
The only bad news is the wait. Forza 3 will officially go on sale in October of this year, with a price of $59.99, or $79.99 for the Limited Collector's Edition). Follow the jump for the official trailer and the press release from Turn 10 Studios, and you can also check out the screen shots in the high-res gallery below. Thanks for the tips, everyone!

The look and feel of a modern racing game: Forza is the definitive racing game. "Forza Motorsport's" appreciation of the automobile is due in large part to the team's attention to detail. This is why automotive engineers from manufacturers like Audi and champion race teams like Peugeot as well as experienced computer graphics specialists from across Microsoft have all teamed up with Turn 10 to make "Forza Motorsport 3" the most beautiful and realistic racing game ever made. All 400-plus cars in the game have been built with more than 10 times the amount of polygons as "Forza Motorsport 2." This includes painstakingly researched cockpits and interiors for every vehicle. But realism isn't just about pretty graphics. Turn 10 takes realism to new heights, leading the industry with the most advanced physics model, artificial intelligence and damage calculations. Whether it's the differences in how each car handles through the corners, how the engines sound at top speed or how different tires and upgrades impact your car's performance, you'll find yourself leaning into your turns as if you were really behind the wheel of your favorite ride.
It's easy to go for a spin: "Forza Motorsport 3" redefines the racing genre. Simulation games can be too hard for some players. Whether you're a newcomer or a seasoned racing game pro, "Forza Motorsport 3" caters to how you drive and evolves with you over time as your skills increase.

Painters and tuners will once again be able to showcase creativity through the celebrated Livery Editor, Auction House and deep tuning garage in "Forza Motorsport 3." The car is literally the artistic canvas as some of the world's most creative car painters and designers find new layers of depth and freedom to create shocking visual masterpieces before sharing them with others over Xbox LIVE*. Each car in "Forza Motorsport 3" is fully upgradable, allowing gear heads to take on the challenge of turning a Honda Civic into a supercar killer. New Xbox LIVE Leaderboards celebrate not only the greatest racers but also the most prolific car tuners and painters in the community.
Play your way: New game modes. "Forza Motorsport 3" is an epic racing game featuring more content and more ways to play than any racing title today. An innovative single-player season mode puts you through a completely personalized racing calendar that includes more than 200 different events, including Circuit, Oval, Drag, Drift and Timed Events. No two calendars are the same; they react to the cars you love and the races you enjoy most. In addition, the online multiplayer mode* gains an all-new game rules editor. Time to start shopping for my wireless wheel/pedals.
I've been waiting for this game forever. Hopefully pre-orders start in Sept.

I've been a long-time fan of these games, but I have yet to find a wheel that works well enough for me to be faster than the controller.... suggestions?
Pokey 4:23PM (6/02/2009)
@ audi_arena
There are no wheels that will make you faster than the controller, unfortunately. Unless you practice for hours on end on a wheel, you are always going to get faster lap times with the controller. The timing and input are much better with a controller.

Preeeetty...
I've always preferred the Gran Turismo series for its less arcadey chassis physics, but I don't think GT5 (remember GT5, Sony?) is going to look nearly as good as this latest Forza installment, if the GT5 Prologue graphics are anything to go by.
Too bad I only bought a PS3 last year... it's hard to justify another console purchase.

Can't freakin wait!

Yeah, you just can't throw the wheel to opposite lock like you can the thumbstick. Snap oversteer is such a b**** when you have to correct it using the proper tools.
The graphics look to be almost on par with GT5P. In keeping with tradition, it has a softer look to it, but I'll most definitely pick this one up when it comes out. At least something to tide me over for GT5... which will come out sometime well after the Ford Fiesta is on its second cycle here in the States...
I never felt like the physics were quite as good as GT in the Forza series, but the crash damage made the racing experience no less frustrating. How many times did you get bumped off-line, put a wheel in the grass and ended stuffing the front splitter in the tire wall? And all those hard races you won by the skin of your teeth battling the constant pull to the right from a bent control arm for the last two laps, blocking the s*** out of the bastard that put you in the wall in the first place?
The only real gripe I had about FM2 was the exponential downforce-to-drag equation. You got not enough downforce and too much drag when you upped it, so that your cornering speeds didn't really improve because of the drag. It was like you had a foot-tall gurney flap instead of a wing. I hope they fixed that. Even in GT4, you could turn up the aero and you could feel it working for you in the corners but it was really only on those long straights where you'd sense the drag holding you back.
Can you tell I'm excited?

In the last paragraph, the article says "Forza 2" instead of "Forza 3"

It does look good, but I'm going to wait to see if it experiences the same problems as every other driving game ever invented - the same bit of tarmac texture repeated over and over and over and over (ad infinitum) again.
Still, at least its due out, unlike the much fabled GT5.

i'm actually not worried about the wait, as i get to wait for microsoft to take/return my 360 that just Red Ring'd this past weekend.
so, yeah, i got that going for me...

Mine RRODed last week and I had it back in 5 days. It broke Saturday morning, I sent it out tuesday and got it back Saturday.
Microsoft rightfully got a lot of flack for the RROD, but they seems to be doing everything to make it up to the customer.
jgp 1:52PM (6/02/2009)
Bah, that's nothing.
Thugs broke down the door to my house and stole my 360 in broad daylight. Now that, my friend, that sucks.
In any case, you bet I'll buy a replacement by the time Forza 3 comes out.

Smooth job on the Anti-Aliasing there, Macroshaft.

Since Gran Turismo 5 is never going to come out, this will have to do. Seriously Sony, just give us a release date already!!
