Citroen DS Inside insides revealed

Citroen DS Inside interior - Click above for a high-res image gallery
At the Geneva Motor Show in March, Citroen pushed its DS3 concept into a darkened corner with horrible lighting, making the actual vehicle extremely difficult to see and photograph. Apparently, the quirky French automaker wasn't quite ready to have the motoring public take a good look at its DS revival. That changes today as Citroen has released a bevy of images along with a video of its latest DS Inside concept vehicle, which is likely a thinly veiled demonstration of what's in store for the upcoming DS3 production model.
We can clearly see that Citroen is planning to make the DS3 a premium small car. Leather surfaces with unique textures and graining are the theme inside, and we think it's all highly purposeful and attractive. Unlike recent modern takes on classic vintage designs from Volkswagen, Mini and Fiat, the revived DS shares absolutely nothing in common with its forebear and namesake. Couldn't we at least get a cool single-spoke steering wheel to gaze at? See for yourself in our gallery below and in the video posted after the break.

PRESS RELEASE:
STEP INSIDE THE CITROËN DS INSIDE - CONCEPT CAR INTERIOR REVEALED
Citroën has provided its first hint at the interior styling of the all-new DS3 by unveiling a new iteration of the DS Inside concept model.
At its launch in early 2010, the DS3 will present owners with an unprecedented range of touches to express their personality, and the haute-couture cabin of the latest DS Inside goes some way to previewing the level of detail and individuality that will be available.
The dashboard is flowing and airy, whilst the instrument cluster, steering wheel and low, body-hugging seats extend the feeling of dynamism. Black chrome touches around the cabin and a thick lounge style carpet, leave the DS Inside exuding class, style and distinction. The concept is strikingly finished with a premium leather roof in pearlescent ivory with a powder-like finish that bears the DS insignia.
The styling project for the DS line has been led by British designer, Mark Lloyd. Beginning with the DS3, the new DS line will deliver a powerful identity to the Citroën family. Representing "Different Spirit", it will present an identity strong on modernity and distinction, drawing its DNA clearly from Citroën's history of innovation and unforgettable design.

What a gorgeous dash.
Seems like Spyker might not be the only one with a clue of elegant interior (and exterior) design.

First thought: Ford Fiesta mixed with Mini Cooper.

"Couldn't we at least get a cool single-spoke steering wheel to gaze at?"
The absence of which was the first thing I noticed. Citroens were some of the last quirky cars, and and now it seems like they're starting to lose some of their specialness.

Okay, maybe I went a little overboard with that comment.

I think it's still very French, and therefore, kinda quirky. I think it's kinda cool. It looks like it would fit like a glove, a really nice leather glove.

Not at all!
They said that the new DS would recapture the spirit of Citroen.
Well, hell, the spirit of Citroen is innovation. There is none extant!
At least these guys could do is stick-in a one-spoke steering wheel!

The interior is amazing, especially with the way the leather is colored...
The whole car is just, so soothing...

Now that I have watched the video I'll continue.....
This is like all the stuff that designers - over the years - have said: "Naw! Not practical!"
- The textured roof that will require a toothbrush to clean if it is left out in the fall and leaves collect on it when it rains.
- The extra-sensory ribs in the dash which collect dust, look funny and add to no-one's pleasure
- The panel seats which, I bet, if you hit them just wrong, feel like a bad bench @ the bus - stop...or an old seat on the train
No. I don't get it. Where's the breakthrough in layout? Where's the exquisite French style that sets the owner apart?
Pink on Gray? Hell, I can get that all day long for my bike gear (www.rapha.cc).
This is a disappointment - at best!

Richard that's a rough ride from someone that sports a Subaru logo.
Richard 7:22PM (5/29/2009)
Hmmmm.
Well, I can only say that Citroen are/were cars for iconoclasts (individualists) who had their own sense of style and - re. cars - engineering. Subaru are pretty much the same.
Then there is the similarity (at least to my eye) in these two vehicles...

I have been lucky enough to have driven both...and stupid enough to have hung on to neither one.

The seats look like niced up R32 seats... not a bad thing... Anyway, this is the first Citreon I've actually found very attractive. That interior just looks inviting... except for the fact i'd never fit in those seats with my 6'3" 210lb frame.

I know there's no shortage of retro-styled cars, but it would have been very apropos in this case to mimic the older car. Missed opportunity, IMHO...

Not fond of the exterior at all, but that interior is soo classy.

The interior is drop-dead gorgeous, but IMO the exterior isn't elegant/beautiful/quirky/futuristic enough to warrant the DS moniker.

This is what Citroen thinks is worthy of the DS name, really, what the hell.
This is actually nothing more than an update C3 or C4, what the hell. Couldn't we have at least got a retro styled DS successor coupe or something.
This is crap!
