Click above to watch video after the jump

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro has already received its fair share of praise in the automotive press, and with good reason. It's the only car under $30,000 with over 400 hp straight from the factory, and it looks pretty damn good, too. General Motors looked to keep the positive reviews coming by dropping off a freshly minted red SS model at Jay Leno's Garage. In short, Leno loves him some bowtie pony car and he considers the modern muscle car good enough to save GM. We're not so sure about that, but last we checked we're not Jay Leno, either.

Hit the jump for nine minutes of video starring Jay Leno and the 2010 Camaro. We usually see Jay when he's cracking jokes during the Tonight Show, but on this occasion he's totally serious about 3,800 lbs of American muscle. Except when he's doing burnouts.

That has to be the most underwhelming 400hp car in history.

Slower than the car it replaced
Slower than any SVT since 2002
(lol) Slower than any Vette since 1998.

Lol, 14.000 pre-orders, that's not gonna save the company. If they make 1000 dollars per car, that's 14.000.000. Compared to the billions they still need to give back (those were loans) i'd say they've got a long way to go.

But it's a step in the right direction! Sharp, well made cars is were they need to go. Clean and no rattles or anything.

I like the interior as well. And he's right, what can you expect for 30.000 grand. I mean, people moaning about the interior should really consider the price of this. For 30k it's about as good as it's gonna get. For 30k (20.000 euros) in Europe you get a mid-engine (1.6-1.8L) ford focus, golf (110-120 bhp), a top of the range fiesta, or more like that. (20% sales tax included)

A shame that it's not going to be available here.

But to put everything into perspective: open Insignia has 100.000 pre-orders (cars sold)

There are better interiors for the money, but that doesn't matter because there aren't better American interiors for under 30k. I'd take it over a mustang or chrsyler's boat any day.

And off course not 30.000 'grand' and 'opel' instead of open

"General Motors looked to keep the positive reviews coming by dropping off a freshly minted red SS model at Jay Leno's Garage"

Awesome. It must be great to be so rich and so respected that you don't even have to pay for new cars anymore.

In the video Jay says the car isn't his. But with the kind of coin he has, $30k would probably seem like a free car.

Leno was offered a role in Top Gear America but he turned it down. He wrote an article explaining it. Here it is.

Has anyone determined if the slot above the grill is an air intake? If not does it serve another purpose? I have seen several Camaro's in a dark burgundy color and it really looks sharp.
why's it a shame, the ZR1's the same, it's just aping quicker GM cars.
They put it there on the off chance that Knight Rider makes a comeback using a Camaro.
I've read multiple times that it's fake, which is a shame, but at least it's not particularly garish or obviously fake (a la 99-04 mustangs' gray plastic scoop inserts).
Yes it's fake, but if it was functional, it wouldn't really make a difference. How much air could possibly fit into that Mail Slot?

Maybe this is why GM cannot deliver Camaro's to all those suckers dumb enough to lay down the cash and pre-order them. No surprise really, even GM thinks the GM fanboys are suckers!
Yeah ... 14 000 orders should save GM with a car that costs as low as a basic Opel Insignia in Europe (which is under GM`s hat as well), and oh ... by the way ... the Insignia has over 100 000 orders for the first 3 months of 2009 ... so yeah ... long live the Camaro, it`ll save GM for sure. No personal offense, i love both Jay and the Camaro, but he should go out a bit more, the gasoline inside his garage is going to his head.

I really wanted to love this new Camaro. It looks great in photos and seems to perform respectably. I saw one in person for the first time at a dealership last Friday and I'm very disappointed. The interior is TERRIBLE! The whole thing is made out of the cheapest plastics available - garbage pail quality hard plastic. The whole interior screams CHEAP!! By comparison, the new Mustang interior looks like an Aston. Plus, the view out of the car is awful - mail slot windows, blind spots everywhere, can't tell where the car ends. Forget parallel parking.

The exterior is cheap too. The front clip is flimsy plastic that shifts and buckles when you press against it. This car may look badass, but try living with it. No thanks, GM.

You don't have to look far to see Leno driving cars. He usually makes at least two appearances a season on My Classic Car. He was on just a couple of weeks ago, driving (and letting Dennis Gage drive) his Honda S600 sports car. He's showcased everything from his 1907 White steam car to his tank car to his Mazda 110S Cosmo.

I hope I can get a use one in 8 years.

Screw the Camaro, I'm all over the BMW 2002Tii in the background...
I think the auto industry needs more Jay Leno. His love for the automobile is obvious and he covers the car in a way that I think anyone would be interested in. Why doesn't he start his own show?

Why isn't HE hosting the American "Top Gear"
That would actually make sense and we don't do things that make sense in this country, lol.
        He outright rejected them IIRC.

It was posted on this site. Just look it up.
