REPORT: Chrysler to send existing customers $1,000 certificate to stoke sales

During a dealer web-cast, Chrysler announced plans to send certificates worth $1,000 towards the purchase of a new vehicle to existing customers in an attempt to boost the automaker's sales during Chapter 11 reorganization. The certificates will be joined by a letter from Chrysler CEO Robert Nardelli (if you get one, we want a copy), and will supposedly reach some nine million current Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep owners. We don't know when they'll start hitting mailboxes, but according to the Wall Street Journal, the deal will be good through the end of June.

Now, if the Chrysler 200 was available, I might venture down there and replace the minivan. but there really isnt anything worth moving to on their lots.

After years (actually decades, going back to Joe Garagiola) of pumping up sales with cash back, I'm not sure anyone is really going to see a $1,000 as a big motivation.
Especially since residual values have dropped 10 pts on Chrysler vehicles.

Is this even legal? If you send a financial instrument, like a coupon or gift card through the mail, the law requires that you must have the assets on hand to fulfill it, otherwise it's mail fraud.
9,000.000 x $1000 = NINE BILLION DOLLARS Chrysler doesn't have $9 biilion!
Oh that's right, Chrysler is actually the US Gov't and the government isn't going to prosecute itself, is it?

It's legal because it's not like it involves really currency. It's just a discount.

They're not getting $1000 to spend on anything, they're getting said DISCOUNT on any car they want.
So, yes, I assume it's legal. No need to rage out like that lol

They aren't handing out $1,000 checks to everyone. They are DISCOUNTS!
I really wish some people would stop and think before they start typing!

For some customers, who they've burned, another zero would be required.

I'm about to purchase another Chrysler this weekend. Is this the same as the $1,000 bonus cash I'd get anyways?

What are you going to buy? And why?

Its actually a relative, he loved his 7 yr. old Town and Country so much that he is buying a new one.

Unless you're getting zero percent financing, don't forget you can get an extra $1000 off by getting financing through a local credit union.
Not a bad deal if the apr on the loan is right for you.

I have a 2004 Pacifica which will hit 110,000 miles in the next hour or so. With the current discounts, the already in place $5000 bonus on all Chryslers and the other $1000 bonus and this new one, I might buy another Chrysler. If I could actually find one, I would buy an Aspen Hybrid. I drove one right after it was introduced and it was great. 21MPG in the city, seating for 8, good towing capacity too.

At this rate, your wait should only be another week or two.
