VIDEO: Tokyo Mater - Pixar's Cars stars head to Japan for some drifting fury
Disney's Pixar are currently working on Cars 2, set to debut in the summer of 2011, but to hold us over until then, they have created a series of animated shorts called "Mater's Tall Tales" that air on the Toon Disney network. Each video features the lovable tow truck Mater, voiced by Larry the Cable Guy, recalling amazing stories from his past - his time on a rescue squad, when he was a famous daredevil, and his stint as a matador in Spain.
The latest tall tale is a hysterical parody of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, in which Mater declares that he "used to be an import." He recounts the story to Lightning McQueen, telling him of how he gets modified and challenged to a drift race in which the loser "will be stripped of all modifications and become...STOCK!" The video had us laughing almost the entire time, and it's definitely worth it to watch. Just follow the jump! Thanks for the tip, Keye!

That was good stuff. That was the second Mater's Tall Tales I've seen. Yes, I watch Disney Channel. I love whenever Lightining McQueen asks Mater "What happened next?" Mater's like "Well you oughta know, you were there." All of a sudden McQueen is part of the story.

On behalf of everyone at Autoblog I apologize that some of us have a life beyond the Internets and don't spend so much time glued to Toon Disney... or Youtube, for that matter. Forgive us, O mighty Shipey.

Holy over-reaction, Batman.

This was actually really well done. If only I was a kid these days, so much better than the trash on TV not too long ago.

It's John Lasseter. I wouldn't expect anything less.

Did you grow up in the 90's? Doug, Hey Arnold, Rockos Modern Life, All That, etc..all those shows were miles ahead of the trash I see today. Ive sat down with my little cuz and watched the Disney channel and Nick...wow, its like everything is soft and politically correct.
I like Cars though, sweet drifts...are those ninjas S15's? haha
Sandeep 7:03PM (5/14/2009)
Actually I did. I enjoyed the shows you mentioned, but by the time the 90s were over animation really sucked. I'm ashamed to admit the only animated show I ever appreciated after those ended/were killed off was "Kim Possible". Yeah, I know thats a -200 masculinity right there.
If only this had been around...
