Rendered REPORT: 2011 Nissan Murano Convertible still in the cards?
Last August, InsideLine reported Nissan was working on a convertible variant of the Murano crossover and today, it's released a follow-up, claiming the soft-top SUV will make it to market sometime before next summer and will lose a set of doors (ala Chrysler's PT Cruiser convertible) in the process. This is either the most inane move by Nissan in recent memory or one of the lamest hoaxes ever to spring forth from the interwebs.According to IL, the 2011 Murano convertible will be produced in limited numbers, come equipped with a retractable soft-top and will be packing the same 265-hp, 3.5-liter V6 and CVT to send power to either the front wheels or all four.
If it happens, it could look like this rendering from IL. With all the products being killed in 2010, this one makes the cut? The mind reels.

It really might be "uglier than a war wound"............as Mr. Clarkson might say.

This bit is one month, 13 days late.
It should have been filed on April 1.
Didn't these people ever see the hideous PT Cruiser convertible? This is 10x worse.

If they cut improvements to other models for this, I will officially never buy a Nissan product ever. On principle alone.
Like I've said before: The Nissan Frontier needs a new base engine, the Titan needs a substantial refreshening, yet they put together a pretend CUV convertible that won't sell to soccer moms who need more than two doors, and won't sell to teenage girls who'd prefer a Volkswagen New Beetle convertible anyway.
Secondly, if they're going to build a convertible why not use the Nissan Altima Coupe to start with? It's pretty, sporty and cool. Completely unlike this vehicle.
This project boggles the mind.

Luigiian beat me to it. Why no Altima Convertible?????????

I'm with Luigiian on this one, if this got the green light and any hopes a Silvia resurrection got snuffed out here's the finger to Nissan!

Because the PT cruiser cabrio proved there was a market for ugly convertible SUV's. /sarcasm off/
Seriously, nissan- because the morono isn't ugly enough?

I think thinking outside the lines should help. This is unique at least.

Um, Jeep Wrangler? Isuzu Amigo / Rodeo Sport? Ford Bronco? Chevrolet / GMC K5 Blazer? Kia Sportage? Suzuki Sidekick / Geo Tracker? Toyota RAV4?
This isn't exactly undiscovered territory here people and with it being a limited production vehicle, I fail to see the problem.

You missed the part where I said ugly SUV's- with the exception of the RAV4, the SUV's you listed were inoffensive at the most.

@ Assass1n...
Your opinion of the Murano's "beauty" is completely subjective so I'm not even going to address that. What I WILL address though, is the fact that you just called a Chrysler PT Cruiser an "SUV"... wtf?! lol

Exactly? I guess many people miss the small Sidekicks and Amigos from decades ago that had removable soft top options.
The above pic is interesting though. Is Nissan planning to make a 4dr Murano Conv? If so, then they solved the 4dr conv formula that Chrysler & M-B was researching in their attempt to release a conv 300C.
In any case, a Murano conv is not really a good idea. Nissan has smaller vehicles that could get conv versions way before the Murano should.

PT Cruiser Redux?
I think the car designer had a nightmare when he decided to make this.

I'm thinking someone drew this up right after he got his pink slip.

Give me a Ranger/Dakota/Taco soft top before this!! A PT Cruiser conv looks better.
